Dear Parents/Carers Re: Term Dates 2018/2019 Please find attached the term dates for the 2018/19 academic year. You will notice that we are beginning the Autumn term slightly early again next year, with an Inset day for staff on Thursday 30th August 2018. Year 7 (morning only) and Year 12 students (if required) will come into school on Friday 31st August 2018, with the whole school starting on Monday 3rd September 2018. The vast majority of students will therefore start term at the start of September. We will also continue to have a two week October half-term, as this has proven to be popular with both staff and students alike, as well as a full two week break at Christmas. The Easter break in April 2019 will also be for two weeks. We have striven to provide you with these dates as early as possible in order for you to plan your family holidays. As per our school policy, holidays in term time should be the exception rather than the rule, and parents should not expect the school to authorise holidays during term time, unless in exceptional circumstances. A reminder that applications for holidays should be made in writing and each application will need to be considered on its merits taking into account the student’s attendance, academic record and previous holiday requests. If a family does need to take a child away for any length of time, no matter how short, the ‘Application Form for Leave of Absence’ must be completed so that the school can consider authorising the absence. ‘Application Form for Leave of Absence’ forms are available from the school reception. Requests for holidays will not be granted during exam periods. Retrospective requests will not be granted. Unauthorised holidays taken in term time may result in the parent/carer being served a Fixed Penalty Notice or summons to court. This is the earliest that we have ever released term dates for the subsequent academic year, and I very much hope that it helps you with your planning.
