Our Ref: MW/KT October 2012 Dear Parent /Carers We have had a very productive half term so far, at Cockshut Hill. The new clip on ties have been a real success and our new Year 7 cohort have made an excellent start and look very smart indeed. Particular congratulations go to our 6th form students from last academic year. There were some excellent exam results and many have progressed to Year 13 or gone on to University or employment. Our Year 11 results are still a disappointment and cause for concern. You will be aware, hopefully, from my letter on our website, that we suffered a drop in our English results (and so our overall results). These issues have been well publicised nationally. It seems unlikely that this unfairness will be rectified. Well done, however, to our current Year 11’s who took a range of exams early, at the end of Year 10. Already 35% of the year group have A* - C in Maths, 38% in English and 22% in Science. As always, some dates for your diary: Thursday 18th October Monday 29th October Thursday 12th November Monday 26th November From 26th November Wednesday 5th December Week of 10th December Tuesday 18th - Thursday 20th Thursday 20th December

Students break up for Christmas holiday on Thursday 20th December at 3pm Please be aware that there have been a number of families taking additional holidays in term time since our return. Although I may be sympathetic to a range of situations it is still not acceptable, nor will be authorised. Unfortunately we currently have 20 parents who have been fined due to poor attendance (which are not medical issues). The largest fine has been £1080.00. Please work with us to ensure students are here and making progress.

If your child has exam retakes after half term or will be working on coursework, please encourage them to spend some of the holiday on this, also they will be informed of any revision sessions College is offering. I hope they will attend! Please consider applying to be a Parent Governor at our College. Information is enclosed with this letter. It is a significant time commitment but very worthwhile. Yours sincerely
