– Fall 2015 Mid-Season Update We are finishing our 6th week of the fall sports season today, which marks the mid-way point for most of our fall sports. Our fall teams across the board have had a strong start – let’s take a closer look!
Cheer Head Coach: Amy Matthews (4th Season at PC) Program Historical Highlights: 2014-15 WCPSS Large Division Champions; 2014-15 Conference Runner-Up Fall 2015 Strong Start: Huge Catamount Chaos section at home opening football game; Performed at 9th Grade Orientation for the 1st time to introduce our school spirit to the newest Catamounts on campus Coach Quote: “We have had a GREAT start to the season with lots enthusiasm and pride shown by all of the cheerleaders.” Senior 2016 Said It: “PC is going to back tuck into winning every competition this year!” –Kaley Winchester Fun Fact: PC Cheer leads the state in mum sales!! Cross Country Head Coach: Paul Scruggs (1st Season at PC) Program Historical Highlights: 2011-12 Men’s Conference Champions; 2014-15 Women’s State Qualifying Team (6th Place at States) Fall 2015 Strong Start: Bridgette Sullivan 4th place finish at Bay 6 Wake County Kickoff meet, Kyle Fawzi also top 15. Bridgette Sullivan 1st overall girl in last week's 3k race, Kyle Fawzi 3rd and Alec Carlson 4th for boys. Coach Quote: “We've put in a lot of work in the August and I can't wait to see how it pays off in some full 5k races down the road. We'll find out how we stack up pretty quick with Friday Night Lights, a meet at Wake Med next Wednesday, and next weekend's Adidas Classic at Wake Med." Senior 2016 Said It: “We are learning to ‘die’ during practice so that we can ‘die’ in our races. Hopefully it pays off in our meet tonight!” –Brooke Henderson Fun Fact: PC XC has been in the weight room quite a bit this fall. Everyone is getting stronger and the work should provide a lot of durability and injury prevention this year. Golf (Women’s) Head Coach: Nate Denton (3rd Season at PC) Program Historical Highlights: 2014-15 4th Place Conference Finish Fall 2015 Strong Start: After 5 Conference Events, PC sits in 2nd Place in Conference Coach Quote: “We are fortunate to have so many strong golfers in our conference and we are constantly striving to meet and surpass their successes.” Senior 2016 Said It: “As a team, we can always count on each other even when one of us doesn’t play so well.” –Maggie Basile Fun Fact: PC Women’s Golf could qualify for regionals this year for the first time in school history! Soccer (Men’s) Head Coach: Chad Sichak (1st Season at PC) Program Historical Highlights: 2008-09 Conference Champions Fall 2015 Strong Start: Came out of a challenging non-conference schedule with a 1-0-2 record against traditional Cap-8 powers Broughton, Leesville, and Millbrook. Currently 3-1 in SWAC play with heartbreaking loss to 1st Place Middle Creek in the final minutes. Coach Quote: “Our player individual commitment to our group effort is what makes our team thrive.” Senior 2016 Said It: “The team goal is to beat Green Hope in the ‘Fight for 55’ and finish in the top three of the SWAC.” –Trevor Stevens Fun Fact: PC Men's Soccer has had 11 different players contribute at least 1 goal to their season total of 25 goals in just 7 games. Tennis (Women’s) Head Coach: Nathanial Blalock (5th Season at PC) Program Historical Highlights: 3 Consecutive Conference Championships (2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15), Back-toBack State Championships (2013-14, 2014-15) Fall 2015 Strong Start: Undefeated Overall Record (9-0) Coach Quote: “We've got a group of really dedicated girls. They're dedicated on the court, and more importantly, off the court. But they want to be the best player on the court every time they step out there. That speaks volumes, not only to their dedication to playing the game but playing for their school. That's a point of pride for us." Senior 2016 Said It: “Our goal is to win the SWAC and the State Championship again.” –Sammi Smith Fun Fact: PC Women’s Tennis holds an annual “pumpkin carving” event as a team building tradition! Upcoming Circle on the Calendar: Tuesday, October 20th – 1st Round of the State Playoffs, PC aims to “3-Peat” as 4A State Champions
Volleyball Head Coach: Holly Fong (2nd Season at PC) Program Historical Highlights: Playoff Appearance in 2009-10 with a final overall record of 14-6 Fall 2015 Strong Start: Undefeated in Conference Play with a 6-0 record, lost in a close non-conference contest to Broughton who is a state championship contender Coach Quote: “This is a special group of student-athletes on and off the court, that play well together, have strong leadership and the will to win. We will work hard to continue to improve as individuals and as a team. I am excited to see where this season will take us. Senior 2016 Said It: “Hard Work + A Great Team = Success” –Jessie Petty Fun Fact: PC Volleyball could have the best season in school history if they keep it up! Our best record to date is 14-6 (2009-10). PC Volleyball has never won a playoff contest – PC Volleyball can shoot to make that another “first” this year for the Catamounts!
