Chicago Mission Trip 2017

Bethel has been going on the Chicago mission trip for many years. Hosted by UKANDU Missions and partnering with Chicagoland Lutheran Educational Foundation, Lutheran Church Charities, and United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Chicago, over 200 youth and adults from Lutheran churches all over the Midwest provide vacation Bible schools, sports camps, and vital maintenance to aging homes and Lutheran church and school buildings all over the Chicago area. Besides work, the group participates in amazing worship services, spends time developing friendships with people from around the country, and takes a trip downtown to enjoy the sights in the city. Ages: 14 and older (under 14 with an adult). Dates: June 25-July 1, 2017. Estimated Cost: $400.00 Deposit: $50 due by February 5, 2017.

Chicago Mission Trip quick FAQs... Dates: June 25 through July 1, 2017 Approximate Cost: $400.00 Age limits: None. This trip is multi-generational, but kids not yet in high school must be accompanied by an adult. This trip truly does have a great mix of high school, college-age, and adult participants. Accommodations: We stay at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School in Melrose Park, IL. We sleep on air mattresses and cots in classrooms. We use the school locker rooms to shower and eat in the dining hall. It’s not four star, but you do get to know each other pretty well. The food is GREAT! Work: Projects in the past have included landscaping, painting, light construction, cleaning, VBS, sports camps, soup kitchens, diaper delivery, food pantry, shut-in visitation and more. Participants indicate work preferences on the registration form. Down Time: While not working on projects, participants enjoy inspiring worship, great food, writing affirmations for each other, playing cards and getting to know people from all over the country. There are usually about 200 total participants. Acts of Random Kindness: Besides work projects, each work group is given an act of random kindness to do each day. ARKs have included handing out water bottles, paying for people’s gas at a gas station, buying ice cream for people, and other kind things. Registration form and $50.00 deposit is due to Scott Brown by February 5.
