Next weekend, December 20-21, is the regular Third Sunday food collection. This is the last drive of the year, and it will benefit the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry here in town. The holidays can be particularly hard times for family suffering job losses or debilitating illness. St. Vincent de Paul reaches out to a wide range of people from our community in need. Volunteers will be posted outside the main entrance of the church collecting nonperishable food and cash donations. (Checks can be made out to Church of St. Dunstan.) The Third Sunday group wishes to thank all parishioners who have given so generously this holiday season, and we wish all a peaceful and joyous Christmas.
Please note that we will follow the Glastonbury School System’s decisions on winter weather. If the school system has a delayed opening or a snow day cancellation, then there will NOT be a morning Mass at Saint Dunstan.
THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT CHRISTMAS EVE PAGEANT This year we will again have the dramatization of the Christmas story during our 5:30 PM Christmas Eve liturgy on Wednesday, Dec. 24. Children of all ages are invited to participate in this pageant as shepherds or angels. There will be a short practice for all children in church on Sunday, December 21 after the 9:30 AM Mass. (if you would like to participate but cannot attend this practice, pick up an information sheet from the church pamphlet racks or from the parish office.)
ADVENT SERIES CONTINUES This Thursday, December 18, will be the final meeting in our special Advent series on “Why did the Pope Choose the Name Francis,” an exploration into Franciscan Spirituality. The meeting will start at 7:00 PM. You don’t have to have attended the prior meetings to come to this one. We are seeking insights into Pope Francis’ actions and behavior based on the life he has chosen to emulate. Come and share your insights into this season inspired by St Francis’ love of the incarnation.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul The Glastonbury conference of St. Vincent de Paul is once again looking for Christmas sponsors for our less fortunate families. If you can help it would be greatly appreciated. If you cannot help with sponsoring a family, perhaps you can purchase a gift card in any denomination to Stop & Shop, Shop-Rite, Target, Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, Bob’s, K-Mart, Marshall’s or any kind of gas card. Please call the parish office (860 633-3317) if you would like to help or to learn more about being a sponsor. If you took a Giving Tree tag, please attach the tag to your UNWRAPPED gift and bring it to the church hall before Mass on December 13th or 14th. Please return it no later than 12:30 pm on December 14th for timely delivery. Contact the Lang Family (
[email protected]) or Wenner Family (
[email protected]) with any questions. Thank you for supporting this very special and wonderful program. Check out the parish website for weekly reflections on the upcoming Sunday readings. Just click on the LEARN icon on the homepage of our website: www.stdunstanchurch.org
