HIKARI

This is the month to celebrate our dad and graduates from high school and college. Let us be thankful for our father and for the accomplishments of our graduates. At Good Samaritan, the following have graduated: Jordan Cazimero Chinen and Taysia Sulzar—Kaimuki High School, Justin Cazimero Chinen—Kamehameha and Darin Chun—Punahou. Congratulations on a job well done!

We hope everyone had a great school year! Jan's grandson Lennon completed his kindergarten year at Wilson School. (pictured with his teacher, Ms. Gum)

We mourn the loss of two of our members:

Ann Kiyuna, who passed away on May 15, 2012. She is survived by her sons, Brad & Blaine and daughter, Lori. Her service was on May 25th at Mililani Downtown Mortuary.

Dr. Seizen Oshiro, who passed away on May 7, 2012. He is survived by wife Lillian, son Ernie and daughter Teri. A private service will be held on June 7th. Remember thy servants, O Lord, according to the favor which thou bearest unto thy people; grant that, increasing in knowledge and love of thee, they may go from strength to strength in the life of perfect service in thy heavenly kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Malcolm attended the EAM Planning Meeting on May 21-23, 2012 in San Francisco. He was joined by local representatives from the dioceses of California, Northern California, El Camino Real and San Joaquin. They met to plan for the EAM National Consultation on June 20-25, 2013.It'll be the 40th anniversary and the Holy Eucharistic Celebration will be held at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. Prior to the National Consultation, Malcolm will be a co-convener for the Japanese Convocation and they will gather for their annual meeting and visit Sei Ko Kai Church, the church that David Ota's mother attends, part of the historically Japanese Episcopal Churches across the nation.

Youth Group News—by Jan Motoshige On May 5th, Children's Day, Maya, Taylor, Jan and Lori, together with Lori's two sorority sisters, Melanie Mizusawa and Edna Kano, went to Mayor Wright Housing library to read to more than 25 children. In addition to reading stories, they also taught them origami folding (a kabuto Boys' Day hat) and learning about the Cinco de Mayo celebration. The children especially enjoyed the story The Musubi Man and made a musubi man to play with. As you can tell from the photos it was a fun day.

Tannor Tollefsen, far left, son of Miss Trisha, an aide at our preschool, is one of the lucky students chosen to participate this summer!

Seven years ago Fr. Gregory encouraged Good Samaritan to be involved in the Palolo community for outreach and took Jan to a meeting at Jarrett Middle School. She joined the SCC and the rest is history. We have made a difference in the community.

A BLESSING RECEIVED Last month, John Ogai sold stocks he held in Morgan Stanley and transferred it to Good Samaritan Church. We recently received a check of $6,113.43. The Bishop's Committee decided not to place the check into its operational funds but will reinvest it into its Diocesan portfolio since the church is currently handling its financial obligations using supply priests each Sunday. Thank you so much, John, for your commitment and stewardship to Good Samaritan Church. Jonathan Lee, son of Gail Lee, has enlisted in the army. He is a PV1 and stationed in South Carolina. He would love letters from home. Please write to him. There is an Episcopal church on base that he goes to. Please keep Jonathan in your prayers as he finishes his basic training.

Alice & Jan from Good Samaritan, Ellen & Laurie from St. Mary’s join St. Luke’s (9:00 a.m. Healing Service and 9:30 a.m. Bible Study) led by Michael Kim.

Jan and Juliet attended the ECW May meeting at McCrea House (formerly Cantebury House) next to Yogurtland and learned about COHORT, a diocesan program for UH students. The meeting was hosted by Youth Minister, Ernesto Psajo, Jr. "Jar." He gave a tour of the lovely house and a short talk about his ministry with the Young Adults and CoHort Ministry. Hope our graduates can go there to study and socialize. Anyone is welcome. Volunteers are needed from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. during the week. Malcolm Hee serves on the COHORT advisory committee. Thank you , Malcolm, for your support of this important program!

Juliet, Alice, Elva and Helen have actively been involved through the ECW. In the past Good Samaritan has been the "little church who has given the most in our diocese." For the past three years we have been number one!!! Our Fall Ingathering will be in September. Thank you all for participating and for your generosity through the years.

The United Thank Offering Prayer GRACIOUS GOD, source of all creation, all love, all true joy: accept, we pray, these outward signs of our profound and continuing thankfulness for all of life. Keep each of us ever thankful for all the blessings of joy and challenge that come our way. Bless those who will benefit from these gifts through the outreach of the United Thank Offering. This we ask through Him who is the greatest gift and blessing of all, Jesus Christ. Amen

More outreach........Thank you! On April 24th GSC donated door prizes for the Jarrett Middle School SCC (parents/students) Meeting at the Palolo Housing Learning Center. We packaged canned food and items remaining from our outreach program in Palolo.

The United Thank Offering (UTO) is a ministry of the Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church. Through United Thank Offering, men, women and children nurture the habit of giving daily thanks to God. These prayers of thanksgiving start when we recognize and name our many daily blessings. Those who participate in UTO discover that thankfulness leads to generosity. United Thank Offering is entrusted to promote thank offerings, to receive the offerings, and to distribute the UTO monies to support mission and ministry throughout the Episcopal Church and in invited Provinces of the Anglican Communion in the developing world.
