COACHING STAFF COLIN INGLIS - HEAD COACH Colin Inglis has made a major impact on the cross country and track and field programs in his 13 years as a head coach at York University. Now in his 14th season, he is continuing to push the track and field team to new heights. Since his arrival in 1999, Inglis has produced 164 OUA all-stars and 56 all-Canadians in cross country and track and field, and studentathletes on his teams have broken several meet, school and national records. Inglis is a two-time recipient of the Bob Vigars Award as OUA men’s track and field coach of the year (2007, 2009) and received the Sue Wise Award as OUA women’s track and field coach of the year in 2003. A Level 3 NCCP coach in the sprints, hurdles and jumps, Inglis is working toward his Level 4 certification. Before coming to York, Inglis served as an associate head coach at the University of Windsor, where he helped lead the Lancers to three OUA track and field titles and two CIS women’s track and field championships in 1996 and 1999. Inglis also served as Power Speed Coach for Canada at the 1999 PanAmerican Junior Championships in Florida, the 2000 under-21 NACAC in Mexico, the 2001 Francophone Games in Ottawa and the 2002 under-21 NACAC in Texas. As an athlete, Inglis was a three-time all-Canadian, 1992 MVP of the York track and field team and a New Brunswick team representative at the 1989 and 1994 Francophone Games. Inglis graduated from York University with a bachelor of science in Kinesiology & Health Science in 1992 and continued his education at the University of Maine, receiving a bachelor of education in 1994. In addition to his coaching duties, Inglis serves as a practicum teacher in York’s School of Kinesiology & Health Science. JENNA BELL – ASSISTANT COACH (MULTI EVENTS) Jenna Bell works with the multi-sport student-athletes after spending the 2012-13 season as the full-time assistant while Colleen Dotson was away. Bell came to York from the University of Toronto, where she has been the junior development coach for hurdles and jumps since 2008. She is also a secondary school teacher with the Toronto District School Board and, in addition to teaching math and science curriculums, coaches cross country and track and field. Previously, she has also served as a camp coordinator and instructor at the University of Toronto and an assistant coach with the Ontario Youth Legion Team. TONY D’AGOSTINO - ASSISTANT COACH (SPRINTS) Tony D’Agostino joined the Lions coaching staff in 2011 to assist with one of the team’s strongest groups, its sprinters. He is currently the track and field coach at Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School in Toronto, a role he has held since 1986, and he is also the head of the physical education department, which he took over in 2003. The school’s track and field program has won numerous medals at the TDCAA and OFSAA championships in the last 10 years, most recently the girl’s team title in 2008. A multi-sport athlete himself who played for the University of Toronto football team and then in the Canadian Italian Hockey League, D’Agostino is a certified NCCP Level II coach and an NCCP instructor for Level I coaching. MATT LOISELLE - ASSISTANT COACH (DISTANCE) Matt Loiselle joined the Lions coaching staff in 2013 to work with the distance runners. He is currently a Brooks sponsored distance runner and a two-time Canadian half marathon champion. He was previously the first Canadian to finish the 2012 Toronto Waterfront Marathon, and before that he competed collegiately for Central Michigan University and competed at the NCAA championships four times.

3

COLLEEN DOTSON - ASST. COACH Colleen Dotson joined the York track and field program for the 2009-10 season and specializes in the horizontal jumps, as well as running the York University Track & Field Club. In the 2013 she served as the jumps coach at the Canada Summer Games. Dotson came to York with significant experience in the sport as a coach, athlete and meet director. Before joining the Lions coaching staff, she was an assistant track and field coach at the University of Toronto with junior development athletes. She was also an assistant meet director for the Festival of Excellence, a world-class track meet hosted by U of T in June that featured several international athletes, including three-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt. While a student at Kent State University, where she graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology, Dotson participated as an athlete from 2001-05. In those years she was a four-time Mid-American conference champion and a threetime NCAA qualifier in the triple jump. She also attended the University of Central Missouri, where she completed her graduate assistantship as an assistant coach and earned a master’s degree in sociology. MILT OTTEY - ASSISTANT COACH (HIGH JUMP) Milt Ottey, now in his sixth year with the York track and field team, brings a wealth of national and international experience to the Lions program. A former Canadian record holder in the high jump at 2.33m who was ranked the No. 1 high jumper in the world in 1982, Ottey has competed in several international events. He won back-to-back gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in 1982 and 1986 and a bronze medal at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. He also finished in sixth place at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. He has previously coached at UTEP, Kent State and the University of New Mexico. RICHARD PARKINSON - ASSISTANT COACH (THROWS) Richard Parkinson is now in his seventh year as an assistant coach with the York Lions track and field team, specializing in the throwing events. A former thrower himself, Parkinson has seen national team duty as both an athlete and a coach. A certified NCCP Level 3 coach in the throwing events, he participated in Athletics Canada’s national coaching mentor program in 2012 and was the throws coach for the 2012 North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) under-23 championships in Guanajuato, Mexico. Parkinson’s coaching career has included stints as a volunteer coach at the University of Buffalo, Clemson University and North Central College. He is also the throws coach for the York University Track Club. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor of arts degree in advertising and marketing and is a full-time senior marketing executive. ARYE ROSENOER - ASSISTANT COACH (POLE VAULT) Arye Rosenoer is the pole vault coach at York and has overseen the development of several top pole vaulters in his six years with the program. Before coming to York, he spent six seasons at the University of Toronto. Rosenoer has guided many of his athletes at international competitions around the world. DAVE WESTON - ASSISTANT COACH (DISTANCE) Dave Weston joined the Lions coaching staff in 2013 as a distance specialist. He previously served as the assistant distance coach with the Windsor Legion Track and Field Club for three years (2007-10) and was an assistant cross country coach with the Windsor Lancers in 2011. Before becoming a coach, Weston had a tremendous running career of his own, including as a varsity athlete with the Lancers. He was part of two CIS team track and field championships (2009 and 2011) and won two individual CIS bronze medals in the 3000m in 2008 and 2009. He is also a two-time CIS all-Canadian in cross country after a fourth-place finish in 2009 and an eighth-place result in 2007, and twice represented Canada at the FISU championships.

CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW The York University Lions track and field team is gearing up for its biggest meet of the season and will be in Edmonton later this week to compete against the best student-athletes from across the country at the 2014 Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Track and Field Championships. The Lions men’s team is looking to move up from its bronze-medal showing last season, while the women were 12th in the standings. This year’s contingent includes 26 student-athletes (seven women, 19 men), many of them who are medal favourites in their respective events. Both squads are coming off tremendous OUA championship performances that led to a big improvement in the team standings. The men finished third in the conference with 137 points, just 19 points out of the top spot and more than double the 64 points they put up last year. Likewise, the women finished in fifth place with 69 points, also more than double their total from one season ago (30). Sprinters Dontae Richards-Kwok and Khamica Bingham have the chance to prove they are the fastest runners in the country as each of them are the top seeds in both the 60m and the 300m events. Richards-Kwok is looking to add to his career CIS medal haul that currently stands at nine, including five golds. The last time he competed at the national meet, in 2012, he swept the 60m and 300m and was named the most outstanding athlete at the CIS championships. He has a chance to win four medals in Edmonton, as he will also run the 4x200m and 4x400m relays. He is coming off a pair of gold medals in the two sprints at the OUA championships, bringing his total conference medal total to 15 in his five-year career. He also tied a 31-year meet record in the 60m with a time of 6.66 seconds. Bingham is the reigning 60m champion after winning the race as a rookie last year while competing for the Toronto Varsity Blues. She set the OUA record two weeks ago with a time of 7.23 seconds, a mark that would shatter the CIS record of 7.31 seconds if she can do it again in Edmonton. Like Richards-Kwok, she has a chance to win several golds as she will also run on the 4x200m relay team that is seeded first. The Lions have three other athletes who are seeded first in their respective events. David McKay, a three-time OUA pole vault champion, is the reigning CIS gold medallist in the event and will be looking to make it back-to-back titles in Edmonton. He is the top seed with a season-best height of 4.91m, which is more than 10cm less than his personal best. Throwers Eric Brathwaite and Umar Khan are the favourites in the weight throw and shot put, respectively. Brathwaite finished in first place in both events at the recent OUA championships to be named the conference’s field events most valuable performer, and Khan finished just behind him in the shot put, claiming the silver medal. The two of them also won medals at last year’s CIS championships in the shot put, with Brathwaite placing second and Khan third.

Another returning medallist is hurdles specialist Ingvar Moseley, who made his CIS championship debut in 2011. That season he won a pair of national silver medals, in the 60m hurdles and the 4x200m relay, and he is coming off a bronze-medal showing in the hurdles at the OUA championships. He enters the national meet seeded third in the event. Brittany Crew will compete at the CIS championships for the first time this weekend and could return home with a pair of medals. She is seeded second in the shot put after breaking the OUA record two weeks ago, and she is fifth in the weight throw ahead of the event. The Lions have three other athletes who are seeded among the top five in their respective events. Richard Jansen recently won the gold medal in the triple jump at the OUA championships and he is among the favourites both there and in the long jump, entering as the fourth and fifth seed, respectively. Meanwhile on the track, Sheereen Harris is seeded fifth in the 300m and Bismark Boateng holds the same ranking in the 60m after both won OUA bronze medals. Both of them are entered into multiple singles events, as Harris will also run in the 60m and Boateng in the 300m, and they will each run in the relays as well. The Lions will have many student-athletes competing in the sprints, which remains one of the strengths of the university’s track and field program. In addition to Richards-Kwok and Boateng, Ayo Agusto and Jameel Brown will run in the 300m, while Tameran Defreitas will join Bingham and Harris in the 60m. One competitor that comes in under the radar is Charles Akomolafe, who missed the OUA championships with an injury but who had already qualified for two national events. The rookie is seeded sixth in the high jump and 10th in the long jump, and can sneak into the medals if he can put up a personal best in either of the events. Rounding out the competitors in the individual events are a trio of throwers. Chris Preece will compete at the CIS championships in the weight throw for the third straight year, while Anojan Sivalingam will make his second straight appearance in the shot put. On the women’s side, rookie Fatim Ammor will make her national championship debut in the shot put. The final event the Lions are entered in is the men’s 4x800m relay. Last year’s team bronze medal was the first podium-finish for the program since winning bronze in 1999, and the Lions are looking for their first CIS title since 1984. The women, meanwhile, won three CIS banners in 1984, 1988 and 1990, and last won a team medal in 1996, finishing second.
