Class 2M Newsletter Theme
Christian Values
The children’s theme this term is ‘It’s a Hard Life. Throughout this theme, we will be looking at the trials of being a child miner in the Victorian ages. We will then look at how the coal industry was so important to Britain and the effect closing the pits had. We kicked off our event with a trip to the National Coal Mining Museum. Here, they explored the day to day life of a miner in the 80’s and went down the mines themselves, experiencing firsthand the conditions that the mines went thought every day. Literacy In literacy this half term, we will be focusing on persuasive writing. The children will be creating their own letters to persuade people to help with a mysterious event that will be happening in Class 2M. They will be using the skills learnt throughout various V.C.O.P lessons to help them create the perfect piece of writing. Children will also be focusing on their spelling, using the spelling patterns we have learnt and using them to spell unfamiliar words. Spellings will now be given out on a Wednesday, to be tested on the following Wednesday. P.E P.E this half term will take place on Monday (indoor) and a Friday (outdoor). On Thursdays, Year Four will also get the chance to practice their swimming skills. This half term, both Years 3 and 4 will have the opportunity to take part in the interschool tournament – Summer Games. Here they will mix with children from other schools and play a various array of fun games and races.
Over the half term, we will be looking at ‘Trust’. In this topic, we will look at how trust is explored our daily lives and how trust is essential in relationships with friends and family. We will also be looking at how the decuples trusted in Jesus and what trust means to a Christian. Religious Education This half term in R.E, we will be looking at ‘How new life is welcomed into the world’. Throughout this this topic, we will look at different religions and how their birthing ceremonies compare and contrast. Numeracy
In numeracy this half term, we will be focusing on geometry, in particular shape, space and position. We will begin by looking at angles and identifying if they are acute, obtuse or a right angle. After this, we will be classifying different types of triangles based on the angles they have. We will then move onto the recognition of perpendicular and parallel lines. Finally, we will be looking at coordinates and how to identify their position in the first quadrant. As always, there will also be a huge focus on our times tables. Science In Science, the children will be looking at ‘Light’. In this topic, we will be looking at how light is reflected and the impact light can have on shadows. We will begin by looking at sources of light and if they are natural or not. After this, we will be looking at the sun and the moon and asking ourselves ‘Why can we see at night?’ We will then conduct practical investigations into shadow length and how shadows can change depending on the position and strength of the light source. Computing, D&T & Art: These subjects will be explored through all our lessons, offering opportunities for both group and independent work.
