CLUB OVERVIEW Our mission: Absolute. The Wiregrass Futbol Club, (a.k.a. WFC and Club), is to develop well-balanced, successful student athletes in a healthy, positive soccer environment. We will promote and develop excellence in club soccer based on the values of skill, sportsmanship and character at all times. We will aim at providing the highest caliber coaching and training to our players so that they can maximize their athletic and personal potential. We emphasize the importance of winning soccer games from the coaching standpoint. Development of our soccer players is an utmost priority for our Club. Our philosophy: Sensible. WFC promotes an environment in which players participate in the great game of soccer while using US Soccer Coaching Curriculum. Reaching beyond the notions of “winning games”, players are challenged to focus on success and fulfillment of both on and off the field achievements in their individual development. We encourage our players to reach their potential, to find passion and creativity, to challenge the status quo and to become the absolute best that they can be. Our goal: Simple. We want to develop a safe and professional environment where players continually improve their skills, compete at their ultimate ability, challenge themselves through their own performance and display this peak performance at training sessions and games. Each player is held to a high regard for each other and the game of soccer. WFC strives to:
Offer committed players the opportunity to develop their skills both technically and tactically and to compete at the highest levels of play. The Club will travel to seek this premium level of play because of its educational value and the belief that soccer improvement is born of superior competition.
Promote the development of academic standards and social skills (communication, discipline, good sportsmanship and teamwork) necessary for academic achievement and good citizenship.
Provide continuing educational opportunities for the WFC coaching staff. Coaching education is of great importance to the Club and will be monitored by the Director of Coaching.
Establish programs for both players and parents that are specifically designed to enhance the knowledge, appreciation and enjoyment of soccer.
Prepare appropriately aged players for competition at the collegiate level, thereby maximizing exposure to college recruitment.
Elevate the profile and image of WFC and Enterprise area soccer on the local, regional, national and international levels.
Focus on the development of physical, mental, as well as emotional fitness of its team members. The Club takes a “no tolerance” approach to violent and/or disrespectful behavior towards or from parents, players and coaches. Players and coaches will abstain from illegal drugs and underage consumption of alcohol. The use of profanity by anyone on the field is unacceptable.
Player Development: We are able to focus our attention on player development yet emphasize on team success by connecting our teams together with a common curriculum and encouraging player movement and training opportunities with the Club. We continue to provide opportunities for soccer development by stressing individual creativity, free play and incorporate team structure and results. By following this curriculum and model, we will build our player’s self-esteem, creative abilities and accelerate the learning process. When applicable, college placement for our players will remain a priority and we will place a number or our players in the college programs by developing technically sound players, educating them on the college recruitment process and networking with our existing college contacts. ***What does WFC look for in a player:
Capability – Players need to be motivated to learn and the ability to focus on tactics and technique. Insightfulness – Players that strive to unify technique with intelligent play so that teams can accomplish the most difficult tasks the game has to offer at game time. Endurance – Players that concentrate on preparing themselves physically as part of the challenges of the game. We want players to try to reach their physical limitations. Determination - A player’s determination must rival his or her passion for the game. We expect honesty and loyalty in the fight for a role on the team. Honesty – Players that display a game that is pleasing to the fans in regards to imagination, creativity, emotional, passionate and intelligent soccer. A clean and winning style of play is brilliant soccer. Commitment – Players that have accepted the commitment to the WFC soccer season and team. Focus – Players that recognize their priorities regarding family, academics, soccer and outside activities.
Player Evaluation:
Written player evaluations will be completed by the individual team coaches – once at the end of the Fall season and once at the end of the Spring season. The purpose of the WFC player evaluations is to help a player and his/her parents identify his/her strengths and weaknesses to aid them in working to improve those areas needing work. This must be an honest assessment of the player’s abilities and contribution to the team. A copy of all evaluations will be turned in to the DOC once completed.
Player Selection:
Player performance will be evaluated by observing the player under the settings of biannual open tryouts, during seasonal practices, scrimmages and especially games. Only the DOC and the team coaches will confer in matters of player evaluations and selections. Our Club coaches make decisions on player selection based solely on the coach’s best judgment of the player demonstrating the highest productivity in the four areas of evaluation: mental, physical, technical and tactical. Politics, parents’ position in the Club, friendships, personal relationships and financial contribution to the Club or team WILL NOT enter into the decision making process of player placement on a team. Players must take pride in their placement on a team. Roster spots are earning and not given away. Playing time is earned – not given away. It is important to understand that WFC players are not guaranteed equal play or a specific position. This is determined by the coaching staff and decisions will be made in accordance with the best interest of the entire team and Club in mind.
Player/Parent Commitment:
The Club is aware that many events occur during the soccer season. We ask that the players and parents strive to be at trainings, playdates, tournaments, etc… as required and dictated by the team’s season schedule. ***In the event of a multi-player conflict (a family that has more than one WFC player and the players have to be at two different locations), please note that attendance at a tournament overrides attendance at a playdate should there be a conflict and player attendance is questionable. When a players signs with WFC, the commitment is to and from the Club – not a particular team. Parents MUST respect the *24-hour rule in regards to any coaching conflicts. (*24-hour rule – time that allows emotions to settle between the coach and parent before addressing the conflict).
Development System: Please note that the stages (see below) provided for each age group have specific coaching instruction. Initial Stage – 5-8 years old: At this age, players do not have the same capacity as adults to analyze the environment they explore and have an egocentric conception of the world. In order to help build the experience with this age group, many exercises will be individual (each player must have their own ball). The tactical component of the game will be reduced to small-sided games with basic explanations about space distribution. Basic Stage – 9-12 years old: The structure (but not necessarily the content) of the training sessions will be similar to that of the older players. The main component of the training will be technical. It is sensible at this age to develop technique and basic tactical understanding. Children’s capacity to solve problems increases significantly; therefore,
players will begin working on basic and dynamic tactical scenarios within their physical limitations in terms of strength and endurance. Intermediate Stage – 13-14 years old: Players in this age group have a good understanding of the game; however, they are limited by physical size and significant changes which arise from “teenhood.” Safety should and will be the number one priority for the coach (avoiding overtraining and focus on tactical and technical elements of the game). Tactical training plays an important role at this age. Advanced State – 15-18 years old: Players at this stage have completed most of their physical and mental development. All components of training can be combined and organized with the purpose of developing the highest potential of the player. The strength of the muscles helps to develop technique at high speed and this speed helps the player to react faster to tactical situations. This state is crucial for combining all the components of soccer in order to increase the player’s soccer knowledge. Player Movement:
WFC is committed to putting individual players into situations that promotes their peak performance. Creating challenging conditions and scenarios that push a player to achieve their maximum potential is what our coaches strive to accomplish during trainings. If challenges are too difficult or more advanced than the player’s basic skill set can build upon, then the player will never learn how to properly learn how to develop those skills necessary to advance. WFC will provide many different avenues to put players in circumstances that not only challenge players but allow success as well. Player movement within the Club is one option to put players in positive situations to increase learning. Teams, and what is best for them, must always be a priority. Player movement is an area where the interest of both the teams and the players are taking into consideration per the discretion of the DOC. The DOC may move players to different teams within the Club to help players find the right amount of challenge and success. If a player is not sufficiently challenged in their team training and in competitions, the DOC may recommend that a player be moved to a team that participates in stronger competition and has more demanding training schedules. Conversely, if a player is struggling to have success, keeping up with the skill level or training demand, or not getting enough playing time due to the player’s ability, then the coach and the DOC may place the player on a team that is not as demanding so that they can have more success. If players are not reaching the demand of their team, not putting forth effort, not training on their own, not having a positive attitude, creating disruptions in the team chemistry or lacking in fitness, player may be moved to a new team or removed from the Club.
Player Releases and Transfers:
The Club has committed to your child for the entire season (season comprises of a Fall and Spring time frame) and we expect the same commitment from players and parents.
The Club does understand from time to time that there will be situations that releases will be requested.
No player will be permitted to transfer if any monies are outstanding or owed to the Club at the time of the request.
The Club and the Team:
Members of the WFC agree to put the Club ahead of the individual teams. Decisions made regarding conflicts between the Club and a particular team, the Club will come first. The team and individual players of WFC agree to put their team ahead of the individual player and the player must be positive in fulfilling the role they are asked to perform on the team.
iSoccer: The Club has teamed up with iSoccer in order to facilitate a way for our coaches and players to establish a positive way to reinforce coach/player training. iSoccer is mandatory to use by coaches and highly encouraged by players. US Soccer Coaching Curriculum: The curriculum (see below) is designed to improve development of players in the organized player base in the United States concentrating on creating more organized, and ageappropriate training sessions, developing coaching practices and creating an environment that is fun for the players. Part I: Part II: Part III: Part IV:
Style and Principles of Play Concepts and Coaching Guidelines Age Group Organization Planning and Training
Club Coaches:
They are considered part of the Club support staff. Coaches may change teams from time to time to meet overall Club needs. Our team of coaches’ approach to soccer is a major asset of the Club. All WFC coaches are there for the support of all WFC teams.
Team Management: Head Coach: A head coach will be designated for each WFC team. That coach will have overall responsibility for the team and he/she should be the first point of contact in the event of a problem or question. The coach is responsible for team discipline, player
substitution and game tactics. Other WFC coaches will participate, from time to time, in other team practices and games. Assistant Coach: It is desirable, although not always possible, to have at least one assistant coach for each team. If the head coach is not in attendance, the assistant coach will take over their responsibilities. Players and parents are expected to show the same respect they show the head coach to the assistant coach. Team Manager: Team Managers are an integral part of the way the Club operates as well as the way it is perceived. They are most often the most consistent voice to the players and the parents. It is important that they support the Club, the DOC and the coaching staff in a positive manner. Remember, the Team Manager is part of the inner family circle of information and quite often are privy to a view of things which can be misperceived by others. It is important that they represent only the facts and not opinions in a positive attempt to make sure the lines of communication with the parents and players are kept open. It is also the responsibility of the Team Manager to collect, account and deposit the team money for tournaments, playdates, etc…
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES Coaches and Team Managers 1) Responsibilities of the Head Coach: a) All coaches MUST hold a minimum of an “E” license or an NSCAA level 4 diploma. i) ii) iii)
All coaches will be expected to attend coaching development clinics and move through the coaching levels. Arrangements are coordinated with NSCAA to provide diploma level training. DOC will arrange clinics throughout the season. These will be DOC driven, guest coaches or assigned to the individual coaches to perform.
b) It is the coach’s responsibility to decide on playing time and NO PLAYER WILL BE GUARANTEED PLAYING TIME. The following criteria will be used in determining playing time. These are in no particular order and at the discretion of the coaches: i) ii) iii) iv) v) vi) vii) viii) c)
Player’s behavior and focus. Player attendance. Player performance and ability. Player attitude and commitment. Player’s desire to improve. Player’s understanding of tactical plan. Situational occurrences in games. Player’s representation of Club values.
The Club expects the coaches to: i) ii) iii) iv) v) vi) vii) viii) ix) x) xi)
Be prompt and on time to training sessions and games. Attend all trainings, playdates and tournaments. DOC needs to be notified of coach’s expected absences. Be responsible to find a substitute to coach in their absence. Use discretion when assigning player’s participation on the field. Provide an environment where learning, teamwork and long-term goals are paramount. Teach technical, psychological, tactical and physical aspects of the game. Set a high standard of discipline and sportsmanship. Motivate and challenge players to consistently give their best. Foster open lines of communication between the players, parents, DOC and the Club. Provide player evaluations twice a year, once at the end of the Fall season and once at the end of the Spring season – at their discretion. Teach commitment and Code of Conduct (refer to Coach’s Acknowledgment). 1) Coach’s Code of Conduct: I promise the following as a Coach with WFC: a) To plan and supervise practice sessions that are instructive and age appropriate.
b) To prepare for each game by creating a strategy suitable to the opponent. c) Motivate and teach with positive reinforcement. d) Treat the Club, players and parents with respect. e) Observe and apply the rules of WFC and our team as per the guidelines of this Handbook. f) Balance the desire to win with the goal of ensuring that all players have the opportunity to improve to their maximum potential, contribute to the team and develop as individuals. g) Remain alert and available to assist players in the Club. h) To ensure each player’s safety by remaining after practice until all players are picked up by a parent or guardian. i) Conduct practices in an environment that does not jeopardize the well-being of a player, i.e., no training or games shall take place when lightning is in the immediate area. At the first sighting of lightning in the immediate area, the players and coaches are to leave the fields and seek safe shelter. Practice will then be cancelled for the duration of that training session. j) That sexual harassment of players, coaches or other associated with WFC is strictly prohibited. k) Avoid profanity during any Club activity. l) Refrain from the use of alcohol or illegal drugs while in the care of minors/players. m) Consent to a criminal background check. n) Agree to portray the Club in a positive light at all times realizing that I am a representative of an organization which works for the benefit of the whole sum of its parts. o) Agree that what is talked about with staff of the Club is private information and is to be kept solely within the Club and is not to be shared with any other coaches/programs/organizations outside of the Club. p) Agree that any information pertaining to the Club or operation is considered confidential and is not to be shared. 2) Responsibilities of the Team Manager: a) Establish a clear system of communication with players and their parents on all matters. Unless otherwise delegated by the Coaches, it is the Team Manager’s responsibility to keep the team updated. b) Work with the team and the Club to ensure that the team stays in compliance with US Soccer, US Club Soccer and tournament regulations. c) Ensure that all information and materials from the Club are distributed in a timely manner. d) The Team Manager’s main job is facilitator. The Team Manager is not a coach, general manager or team owner. Direct all parent and player concerns that are individual in nature to your respective team coach. Discussion of issues such as playing time, coach’s decision or Club direction or policies should be avoided and referred directly to the coach. e) While Team Managers are not employees of the Club, they are to be supportive of the coach and the Club at all times. The Team Manager is not allowed to hold

private meetings for the team without the Coach’s participation or approval. If this occurs, the Team Manager can be relieved of their duties. Managers will sell people on the direction of the Club; do not give your opinion on whether you think it is the correct direction. Remember you are the most visible voice for the parents so please support the decisions of the Club. If you have an opinion on the way things can be done better, refer your opinion regarding those issues to the DOC for discussion. Refer any issues regarding fees to the Executive Board of Directors. During games and practice sessions, please join the parents on the sidelines. The Team Manager is responsible for collecting, accounting and depositing the team money for tournaments, playdates, etc… The Team Manager is responsible for attending monthly managers’ meetings. Missing up to two meeting without explanation will result in the Team Manager being relieved of their duties. Helps with registration at the beginning of the season and helps register any new players that joins the team mid-season. The Team Manager is the primary contact for fundraising activities. i) ii)
Distributes fundraising information provided by the Club to all team parents. Must seek Executive Board of Directors’ approval for the fundraising activity. 1) To ensure that no fundraisers overlap (and therefore take away revenue from one team), the team submitting information to have a fundraiser must include the purpose of the fundraiser as well as what the funds will be used for at least thirty (30) days prior to the event.
iii)
Collection and accounting of orders and payments for fundraising activities.
m) Responsible to complete and submit all tournament applications as directed by the team’s head coach by the application deadline. n) Responsible for the registration of the team for all tournaments and playdates. o) Will register each team on www.soccerincollege.com Once this is done, they will keep the team web page and statistics up to date. i) ii) iv)
This is a great recruiting tool and search engine for tournaments and playdates. All players will be encouraged to create their profiles on this site and to keep them up to date. Any team fees associated with www.soccerincollege.com should be equally divided amongst the team players. Any individual fees are the sole responsibility of the parents.
p) Aids in coordinating and securing travel plans (hotel information, team dinner, etc…); however, it is not the responsibility of the Team Manager for payment to these entities.
Player’s Responsibilities, Uniforms, Parent(s)Responsibilities 1) Player Responsibilities and Code of Conduct (refer to Player Acknowledgment): a) Attend all training sessions, games, tournaments, playdates, team meetings unless previously excused by the Coach. i) ii) iii) iv) v) vi)

When conflicts arise, notify your Coach as soon as possible ahead of time. You have a responsibility to the Club and your teammates to be at as much all of the above mentioned events. Be on time. If you do not participate, you are impeding your chances to becoming successful. Showing a lack of respect for the Coaches’ time is thoughtless. From the designated time of arrival at all practices and games, players are expected to concentrate on soccer. Practicing and playing your best requires undivided attention. There will be no visiting between players and parents, friends or others (those who may cause you to lose focus on soccer). From the time practice starts until the time that your Coach dismisses you from practice, you are to focus 100% on your training. During games, the same applies and during halftime at games. Players are expected to get water and return right away to the practice/game setting. Players should be ready to step on the field and begin training at the scheduled training time. If you are not fully dressed to begin practice, you are not on time. When necessary, the Coaches may ask you to do hard physical workouts immediately following games. Players must arrive sixty (60) minutes prior to games top properly prepare and warm-up. Show respect to your teammates and Coaches whose time is just as valuable and don’t let your tardiness hurt the hard work they put in. You represent WFC at all Club activities, i.e., tournaments, playdates, trainings, etc… Respect the game, your opponents and all individuals. You have an obligation to the Club when you agree to be a player. You are expected to exemplify leadership and respect towards referees, fans and opposing teams. Having the proper equipment is part of your preparation to reach your highest level of play possible. All players are expected to have all their equipment with them at all times. Proper equipment shall include but not limited to: 1) Sufficient water to ensure hydration. 2) Shin guards sized appropriately. 3) All proper practice and game gear, i.e., keepers need different colored jersey. 4) Appropriate footwear: boots/cleats for practice/games. Slides are highly recommended for before and after games for suitable foot care.
5) PROPERLY INFLATED and proper sized soccer ball. Bring your soccer ball to every practice and game (mark your ball with your full name). 6) Proper training attire for practices (to include shin guards and cleats). 7) Proper training attire for games to be items worn from the most current season (all game jerseys, socks, shorts, shin guards, cleats, etc…; goal keepers to bring two discernible jerseys and keeper gloves). This will also include that players will wear their training jersey as indicated by the Coach to the game for warm-up. After warm-up and in preparation of the game, players are to wear game jersey. After game, player is to switch back into the training jersey. 8) Please have your kit bag with you at all practices and games. 9) Leave your rings, watches, necklaces, bracelets, earrings and any other jewelry and hairpins (except for rubber bands, elastic bands and head bands) at home or in your kit bag. 2) Uniforms a) All WFC teams wear Adidas apparel. WFC Club colors are navy blue and yellow. b) All players are required to purchase a new uniform kit in 2013. The uniform is a two (2) year cycle beginning August 1 of that alternating year. c) Please see website for proper uniform requirements. d) All eligible substitution players on the sideline of a game will have a penny to designate them as such. e) Players may wear a white, short or long sleeved, shirt ONLY under their jersey for games. f) Gloves and ear bands are allowed during inclement weather. 3) Parent Responsibilities If players are to fulfill their quality commitment to the Club and their team, parents must see to it that players attend all possible Club and team training sessions and events. There will be times when conflicts cannot be avoided and more important events occur. You must inform the Coach in advance if your player is unable to attend practices or games so the Coach can plan accordingly. The Club requires your communication, planning and understanding so we can minimize these conflicts. During practices, nobody other than players will be allowed on the playing field. This is necessary to help keep plenty of open space for the teams to practice on and to avoid possible distractions. As a group we are building an organization which we will want to be a part of for long time to come. An organization we are proud of that simply treats people how they want to be treated. Help us promote this great game and its attributes. Be an important part of a growing dynamic soccer club, WFC, that strives to be one of the best in the Southeast. 1) Be a positive role model for all players and adults in the Club. 2) Support your player in a positive manner. 3) Attempt to learn the game and gain knowledge which can be used to promote the sport of soccer. 4) Do not coach from the sidelines during practices and games.
5) Be responsible for your player being on time, properly equipped and showing respectful behavior no matter the circumstances or provocation. 6) Inform the Club of any relevant medical conditions. 7) Once your player has joined the team for a training session, do not interfere until the Coach dismisses the team from the training or game. a) After training or a game, please reflect upon the 24 hour rule (allowance of 24 hours before discussing issues or concerns so that emotions settle) should there be an issue/conflict to discuss. b) Email or call to schedule a meeting with the Coach. c) Report any and issues to the Coach not the Team Manager. 8) Do not interfere with the center referee or assistant referees, the opposing team’s players/parents or staff, or any field marshal. No taunting of the opposing team players, parents, coaches or spectators will be tolerated. You will be directed to leave the fields accordingly as necessary. Violation will be brought to the attention of the WFC Board. 9) Parents will not use foul or abusive language. If this occurs, the individual will be asked to leave the practice or game. 10) Parents will sit on the opposite sideline/half from the team during games unless directed by the Coach, Team Manager, referee or field marshal. 11) Pay any and all fees promptly. Parents should understand that there are no refunds, credits or reductions to fees. 12) Be responsible for your player at all WFC trainings and games to include tournaments and playdates. In consideration of our coaches and staff, please be prepared to pick up your player promptly at the designated times. It is not fair to the Coaches and staff to accommodate untimeliness. 13) WFC WILL be very firm with our parent policy and Parents Code of Conduct (refer to Parent’s Acknowledgment). a) Players have more need of example than criticism. b) Make soccer participation for your player and other a positive experience. c) Attempt to relieve the pressure of competition not to increase it. A player is easily affected by outside influences. d) Be kind to player’s coaches and to the officials. e) To abide by the 24 hour rule. f) The opponents are a necessary friend. Without them , your player could not participate. Applaud good plays by your team and by members of the opposing team. Parents should be cheerleaders. g) Between the exuberance of the winner and the disappointment of the loser, we find the referee. i) All of them follow the same creed to watch every move of every player and to call the game to the best of their ability. ii) Do not openly question their judgment and never their honesty. iii) They are a symbol of fair play, integrity and sportsmanship. 14) Accept the results of each game. i) Encourage your player to be graceful in victory and to turn defeat by working towards improvement. ii) Just like in real life, players will sometimes deal with adversity. 15) Accept the decisions of the Club as being in the best interest of the entire Club.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES Playdates/Tournaments and Travel: In an effort to give our teams and your player the competition to help them develop into a better athlete, some teams may plan on attending a number of out-of-town playdates and tournaments throughout the season.
It is the responsibility of the parent(s) to arrange for your player to be at the playdate or tournament on the date and times requested by the Coaches. All players will be responsible to pay for their respective travel expenses in a timely manner to the Team Manager. o o
Failure to pay may lead to non-participation at an event. It is mandatory that all players on a team will pay for tournament entry fees regardless of participation of the player.
All players shall adhere to the Players Responsibilities rules located in this handbook when attending all playdates and tournaments with WFC teams. All coaching staff and parents (possibly chaperones) will try and stay at the same location, i.e., hotel, during the playdate or tournament to foster unity and a sense of team. Coaches, Team Managers and chaperones are responsible for the behavior of the team at all playdates and tournaments. Although Team Managers, players, parents and chaperones are not employees of WFC, they are representing WFC at all times; therefore, appropriate behavior is expected at all times during the trip. Any violations of the Player Code of Conduct or the Parent Code of Conduct will be dealt with appropriately. In the event a Coach cannot coach a game or attend a playdate/tournament due to conflict, the DOC will assign a coach to take their place. Substance use and/or possession thereof (drugs, alcohol and/or tobacco by minors) are cause for immediate dismissal from a team trip. Persistent irresponsible and disrespectful behavior is cause for immediate dismissal from a team trip. If dismissal from a team trip occurs, no reimbursement of trip fees will be made to the dismissed player or the player’s family.
Fundraising:
All fundraising activities will be cleared in advance with the Club via Board approval. The purpose and what the funds will be used for must be done thirty (30) days prior to event. All WFC teams are encouraged to raise funds for their particular team to cover the cost of travel, dues, playdates, tournaments and whatever else their respective team may like to utilize the funds for in order to lower team expenses.
The Club has an interest in assuring that the fundraising efforts do not conflict with the Club activities, policies or with the activities of other WFC teams. The Club may also organize Club level fundraisers throughout the season. This information will be passed to the individual team via the Coach and/or Team Manager.
Style of Play: team.
WFC believes that there is a style of play that our Club strives to accomplish within every A commitment to achieve. Always go forward – Always attack. A commitment to always cover for your teammate. Constant player and ball movement. Proper balance. Proper spacing. Everyone must be an offensive threat no matter what your strengths are. Strive to be the best player you can be by using your talent. Believe in and support your teammates no matter how bad or good you believe their abilities to be. Your ability to find their strengths and accent them will help the Club reach their vision.
Keys to Success:
Have a strong work ethic. Have a clear understanding of the obstacles one must overcome. Develop players from our Initial Stage to our Advanced Stage through skill and understanding of the world’s most beautiful game. We must realize as a Club, a Coach, a Player and as a Parent that the correct direction might not win in the short term but will always win out over the long term. The right amount of emphasis on winning playdates, tournaments and championships. We must be more than a winning Club. We must offer an exciting game where soccer is played well. During this endeavor, winning is important. This creates the foundation for our success and belief that any obstacle in life or on the field can be overcome. Our players need to be committed to the fact that the key to success is to play to the best of their ability, always play well and understand that winning strengthens this attitude within the team and the Club.
WFC Values:
RESPECT: We are always in the public’s view. Inappropriate action s and behavior have repercussions.
SPIRIT: Technique is perfected by sacrifice. All players within WFC can play soccer but they must also have the enthusiasm to AGGRESSIVELY defend and recover the ball. The only way we can play the attacking soccer that we enjoy is if we have the ball.
BALANCE: Players must understand that the team works as a whole unit. Fullbacks cannot attack when someone is in their attacking range. We must attack with deception and be aware of our teammates to avoid unnecessary risk.
FREEDOM: Although players will always maintain a primary position on the field, they are expected to learn and understand the specifics of their position as well as other positions on the field.
ZONES: Zone defending will be learned, practiced and played by the WFC teams. This is required to ensure the development of the best possible players.
TEMPO: WFC players will learn what it means to control the tempo of a game. The game requires changing speeds and deception which requires teams to maintain possession and control the ball.
MENTALITY: WFC teams and players should not dwell on the past. The perception of the Club is moving forward always attempting to achieve loftier goals like playdate, tournament, state and regional championships.
MOBILITY: WFC players must remain mobile. Constant movement and interchangeability of positions is key to the WFC soccer mindset. This movement will disrupt and complicate the opponent’s game plan thus allowing us the freedom to maneuver and continue to attack.
INTELLIGENCE: The importance of understanding can never be underestimated nor replaced by pure speed and force. By listening to coaches, players can raise their game to the next level.
WORK ETHIC: The best team doesn’t always win and the lesser team doesn’t always lose in this game. Although preparation alone doesn’t guarantee a win, teams and the Club must work hard and prepare throughout the week. After having done this, you will have a sense of satisfaction knowing you put everything you had into preparing to accomplish our goal.
