Clubmark – make your club the best it can be

Clubmark Portfolio Overview The Clubmark Portfolio acts as a record for your club to store and present all of the information to show that you have achieved the required standards. It contains the criteria needed to attain Clubmark. The portfolio is divided into three sections as follows: Sustainable Club Structures; HookedforLife – Developing Young People through Hockey and Creating a Safe Environment. Sustainable Club Structures Effective Management is a key characteristic of a successful hockey club. Clubs are more likely to be successful, demonstrate openness, have good communication, and demonstrate compliance with policies and procedures. Examples of the criteria in this section include:     

Have an effective and functioning club committee Have an up to date and relevant club development plan Have a policy in place regarding the recruitment and management of volunteers Appropriate level of communication with parents/guardians of underage players Show the club is inclusive and open to all

HookedforLife – Developing Young People through Hockey This section considers the importance of delivering a quality coaching and playing programme within your club with a focus on recruitment and retention of players. The club’s playing programme should be in line with HookedforLife (Hockey Ireland’s Long Term Player Development Model). This underpins the delivery of appropriate coaching and competition, and supports the creation of pathways to provide children and young people with opportunities to maximise their potential. Examples of the criteria in this section include:    

The adoption of suitable participant to coach ratios Ensuring coaches hold appropriate qualifications Ensuring clubs are aware of and address recruitment and retention issues Ensuring participants receive a suitable number of playing opportunities

Creating a Safe Environment Hockey clubs should provide a fun, safe and positive experience for all people, but especially young people. As part of their commitment to develop young people, clubs should adapt and implement Hockey Ireland’s Code of Ethics for Hockey for Young People. This includes policies, procedures, good practice guidance and a number of resources to support this process. This section provides a structure and good practice guidance for clubs and their members and minimum operating standards when working with young people.
