Club Volleyball FAQs 2018 

What is Richmond Juniors? o We are a competitive, regionally based, travel volleyball club and feeder system for Richmond Volleyball. Our goal is to improve the skill level and knowledge base of Richmond area volleyball players.

When Are Tryouts? o We are targeting December timeframe for tryouts: pending available gym space and appropriate facility approvals. Please check our web presence regularly for updates.

What happens after tryouts? o One of three things: we will call within a week to set up an additional tryout date, offer a position on a team, or simply thank you for trying out.

What do practice and game schedules look like? o Practices will be two hours (possible adjustment for younger groups) and this will occur twice a week. Days and times are TBD once teams are formed and we can work out schedules that will best support the players. o Tournaments are held on Saturday’s or Sunday’s and generally start at 8am/9am and go through to about 2p/3p or they will start at 2p/3p and go until 8p/9p. GAME SCHEDULES ARE ALWAYS RELEASED THE WEEK OF THE TOURNAMENT, usually the Wednesday or Thursday before the game. o Attendance at practice is EXPECTED & MANDATORY. We anticipate starting practices in December. You should plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early and dismiss 15 minutes late. This allows time for the courts to be setup and torn down, without affect practice times. o Attendance at tournaments is also EXPECTED & MANDATORY. You should arrive at the time indicated by your coach. o Attendance issues will initially be addressed by coach to player. If attendance issues are not properly dealt with, it could result in dismissal from the team. Please discuss any potential scheduling conflicts well in advance with your coach

Is playing time promised? NO!! o Practice is promised! Playing time is earned!

How many players will be on a team? o We will focus on developing a team based on player dynamics/interactions, skill level, and age. Teams will be adequately filled to accommodate practice and game requirements.

How much does it cost and when is the money due? o The total cost is $500 per player. There are 2 payment deadlines which will be communicated later. We anticipate an optional fundraiser to be available as well. o Payments must be made on or before the communicated due dates. Checks must be made payable to: Richmond Volleyball. o Players will lose the opportunity to practice and play if payment arrangements have not been made. o Payment can be made in person at the RHS Athletic Office to Kris Mon-Fri 8a-4p. Please note: there may not be anyone available during lunch time to accept payment. Rear doors of the Tiernan Center are locked during normal schools hours. Please plan accordingly

What do your club fees support?

o

Club fees cover all tournament registration fees, insurance, facility expenses, volleyball equipment, coaching expenses, and team jerseys (2 per player)

Are there any additional costs? Yes! o Black shorts/spanx and black knee pads will need to be provided by the athlete. o Volleyball shoes are also an additional expense o Gas, food, and travel expenses to and from the tournaments should be considered as well. Games will be played in Indianapolis/Muncie areas for the most part. You must be able to work with other parents to get your child to practice and games. If this is the only barrier, please speak with the director. All distances can be driven from and returned to in same day. Getting hotels is not necessary for our schedule, but might be encouraged for any two day events.

Fundraising o Fundraiser options will be communicated at a future date and time

What if my child plays basketball, softball, or is involved in other activities? o Once they are offered a spot, please let the coach know what night’s conflict and we will try to work around it. If we learn that schedules conflict too much, this might affect their ability to stay with the team. In short, playing multiple sports is okay and encouraged, but time must be made. This is not something you can just show up on game day and expect to play.

Tournament Info/Games Played o Most tournaments are round robin formats. Teams play 3 to 4 matches a day and it is the best 2 out of 3 at almost every tournament. We are looking to schedule 6 tournaments that will be played between February-May. Season is not expected to go past Mother’s Day. Players will be expected to help line judge, down ref, and do scorebook at tournaments. Younger players will have to learn the process. This is an expectation at all tournaments.

Can my child play up?

o

Everyone attending try-outs will be considered for an older group if their ability level proves to be beneficial to an older team. Players may move up in age group but may not move down.
