Tell us more about your sustainability efforts: Our school has had a focus on sustainability for some considerable time. We are members of a worldwide organisation with a sustainable focus called Eco Schools. Last year we were awarded our Bronze award for our work in the Recycling and Litter awareness and Lifestyle and Wellbeing areas. At our school we have a group of students called the E Team, who are responsible for caring for our school environment and passing on their knowledge and enthusiasm for these matters to the wider school community. These students attend weekly meetings, then work in the school grounds collecting litter, maintaining garden beds, making posters advertising events such as Clean Up Australia Day, Earth Hour etc. We recycle many items in our school including ring pulls from aluminium cans, printer cartridges, paper, cardboard, mobile phones, batteries etc. How did you get involved in collecting with TerraCycle and the Bright Smiles, Bright Futures Recycling Program? We are always looking for new items to add to our recycling program. The Bright Smiles, Bright Futures campaign was suggested to us by a staff member.

Why do you feel it’s important to participate in the programs? The program is an excellent vehicle to promote our school message about recycling and using sustainable methods to the school community. As a public destination, we hope this message will spread further. What charity or cause do you plan to support and why? We will be supporting our school, in particular the E Team. We plan to use the funds to purchase equipment needed to continue our work in the sustainability area. Tell us a story about your most moving, exciting, or memorable experience when collecting for the program? We have only been a part of this campaign for a short time but it has been exciting for the students to see how quickly our collection bin would fill up. After we introduced the bin, some students would check daily and were very happy to see the collection growing before their eyes. What inspires you to recycle? At Rosetta we are constantly striving to reduce our carbon footprint and minimise our impact on the environment as individuals. We already recycle a number of items and are happy to increase this number.
