What have you read in your daily Bible reading that has been new or helpful or encouraging to you this week? Read the verse aloud, and share your thoughts.

Read Ecclesiastes 1:12-18. How did the Lord speak to you through His Word on Sunday morning?

How inclined are you to ponder ultimate questions like the meaning of life? Are you more like Calvin or Hobbes?
4.
Does this text leave you feeling more hopeless or hopeful, and why?

Read 1 Kings 3:5-14. Why do you think God was so pleased by Solomon’s response to the opportunity he was given?
6.
Read 1 Kings 4:29-34 and 10:23-24. What impresses you about the wisdom of Solomon? How does this background affect our understanding of Ecclesiastes 1?
7.
In your own life, what is “crooked” that could never be “made straight” by human wisdom (v 15)? What is “lacking” that could never be “counted”?

Has the pursuit of wisdom somehow increased your own grief or sorrow (v 18)?

How has the wisdom of God’s Word helped you to straighten what is crooked, or count what is lacking, or increase your sense of peace?
10. Read 1 Corinthians 1:18—2:15. What verse stands out to you and why? What distinguishes God’s wisdom from the wisdom of the world? How is God speaking to you about the pursuit of wisdom that comes from Him?

THE QUEST FOR WISDOM Ecclesiastes 1:12-18 Our acquisition of knowledge will ultimately prove fruitless if we fail to grasp two limitations of human wisdom:
