1 Corinthians Sermon Series Supports Session 2: Glorifying God Sermon Title: The Power of the Gospel Passage: 1 Corinthians 2:1-5
Connection to the passage As Paul began his letter to the church at Corinth, he emphasized the importance of the gospel. Paul had shared the gospel with them. The power of the gospel transformed their lives. Before dealing with the various problems and issues in the congregation, Paul established the foundation of the gospel’s power. Introduction/Opening The start of a project, adventure, or relationship impacts the future of that project, adventure, or relationship. We either build on a good start or work extra hard to overcome a poor start. Paul reminded the believers in Corinth how he first came to them. He obeyed the Great Commission by going to them, sharing the gospel, baptizing those who believed, and taught them God’s Word. For this reason, Paul demonstrated the power of the gospel by sharing his testimony about Jesus Christ, courageously obeyed God in spite of fear, and depended on the Holy Spirit’s power. Outline 1. Share the testimony about Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 2:1-2) a) Jesus is the Son of God. b) Jesus died and rose again. c) Jesus came to save us. 2. Courageously obey God in spite of fear or weakness (1 Cor. 2:3) a) Acknowledge your fears, but do not let them stop you. b) Move forward with the promise of Christ’s presence and power. 3. Depend on the power of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 2:4-5) a) Our message is a demonstration of the Holy Spirit’s power rather than man’s persuasive words. b) Our message is based on God’s power rather than man’s wisdom. Conclusion God is glorified in our lives when we personally experience the power of the gospel. As believers, we are called to go into the world and share the gospel with other people. God will be glorified as we courageously share the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit. Don’t be afraid to move forward in faith and share the gospel!
