2 Corinthians Sermon Series Supports Session 11: Becoming New Sermon Title: Living a Clean Life in a Dirty World Passage: 2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1
Connection to the passage As agents of reconciliation, we represent Christ in this world. For this reason, we must live a holy life in the midst of a fallen, sinful world. When the world sees us model the message of the gospel, the invitation to a changed life becomes believable to them. Introduction/Opening Some people still argue over whether the world is round, flat, or somewhere in between. In truth, the world is crooked. We are a sinful people in desperate need of God’s mercy and grace. Without God, it is impossible to live a pure life. We will observe how the Apostle Paul instructed the church at Corinth on how to live a clean life in a dirty world. Outline 1. Principle of separation (2 Cor. 6:14-16) a) Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. b) What does righteousness and wickedness have in common? c) We are the temple of God. 2. Promise of sanctification (2 Cor. 6:17-18) a) God promises to receive us when we leave our sin. b) God promises to be our Father and we will be His children. 3. Purify from contamination (2 Cor. 7:1) a) Let’s purify ourselves because of God’s promises. b) Let’s pursue holiness because we seek to honor God. Conclusion We move towards a clean life in a dirty world when we leave our life of sin, believe God’s promises, and pursue holiness. Are you willing to respond to God’s call of repentance and His promise to receive you as one of His children? If you are willing to turn towards Christ, He will be your God and you will be one of His children.
