According to the research, the speed of eating is ‘Key to Obesity'. Compared with those who did not eat quickly, fast-eating men were 84% more likely to be overweight, & women were just over twice as likely. The problem is, students waste their time in long queue to wait for the food, which makes them to finish the lunch quickly. Overall environment of the cafeteria, coupled with the routine procedure of the receiving the food and eating, also makes the lunch experience as boring and tedious. What if the students spend longer time eating while chatting, interacting with each other instead of waisting time in queue? We started with this question. To achieve this, we introduced "Food Belt", inspired by the conveyor belt sushi, where the plates with the foods are placed on a rotating conveyor belt that winds through the cafeteria and moves past every table. Employing curves and angles, we envisioned roller coaster-like configuration of the food belt, which will create the aura of the amusement park. In addition to transforming the cafeteria as the fun place, we also imagined the opportunity of education- The food belt will pass through the CO-OP farm located at the perimeter of the cafeteria, cooking station where the chef staffs work and garbage sorting station. This mini display of the food cycle will help the students to better understand how our foods are produced, distributed and consumed. Over the years, the students will participate in the seasonal activities of farming which will provide the educational opportunities to acquire knowledge about the foods we eat and also appreciate the value of the locally grown food. We also asks the students, in turns,to participate the garbage sorting process at afterlunch hours, which will offer the time to re-think about trashing the unfinished foods while boosting physical activities.
