Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County Board of Director’s Meeting February 23, 2015 Minutes In attendance: Andrea Nilon, Al Gibbs, John Russell, Jim Conklin, Kristen Jensen, Nolly Climes, Jim Monroe, John McCarey, Robin White, Paul Ruszkiewicz, Noel Spencer, & Charlie Fausold CCE State Specialist. Absence: Mary Onken, JimPresutti, Michael R. Pillmeier. Call to Order: Board President Andrea Nilon called the meeting to order at 7:03 PM followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Additional Agenda Items: None Correspondence: None Introductions: Charlie Fausold, CCE State Specialist Kevin Belser, Agriculture Resource Educator – Produce Stefanie Hubert, Project Manager, ESNY Shayna Russo, Sr. Resource Educator, ESNY Jessica Henderson, Community Educator, ESNY Approval of Minutes: Motion by John McCarey, seconded by Robin White, to accept the January 28, 2015 Minutes with two corrections – spelling of Al Gibbs and Kristen Jensen names. Vote taken, motion passed unanimously. President’s Report: Andrea Nilon FCS Program Advisory Meeting – Jan. 12th Community Foundation Volunteer Recognition Event Finance meeting – Feb. 23rd Secretary’s Report: Peggy Kral for Mary Onken Construction Meeting held Jan. 17th Campaign – Special Events Meeting – Jan. 28th & Feb. 19th Executive Director’s Report: Lucy Joyce Gleaning Program – funding received for next 2 years from Dyson Foundation. New printing machine is installed. Orange County Trust has pledged $50,000 to the Education Center and 4-H Park development over the next 3 years. Private donor has pledged $75,000 to the building of the bathrooms/showers at the new Education Center and 4-H Park. Food & Nutrition meeting held today.
Report of Liaison Representatives: Orange County Legislator – Paul Ruszkiewicz o County signed contract for local foods o County Government building – vote for renovations/additions; Bond of 74 million. Orange County Executive’s Office – John McCarey o Government Center – resolve with the vote. o County Executive sent welcome to Charlie Fausold and thank you for attending meeting. o Budget – 16 million short this year; tough time. CCE State Specialist, Charlie Fausold o Report of his duties/responsibilities/history. o CCE Newsletter – Report to Boards distributed. o Discussion of Shared Business Network (SBN) issues board concerns: CCEOC paying larger portion SBN moving in right direction? Review of formula for contributions by Associations Vision for the next 4-5 years o Charlie to provide survey and information collected from survey with board. o April 9th SBN Board Meeting – Dutchess County. Program Highlights: Stefanie Hubert, Project Manager, Eat Smart New York (ESNY), Shayna Russo, Resource Educator, and Jessica Henderson, Community Educator – Explained and updated the board on the process of the ESNY since receiving the Grant Funding to be the Regional Lead for the program. Committee Reports: Personnel – Scheduling meeting date. Finance – John Russell o Meeting held prior to this meeting. o Received 10% cut from County - $169,000 from Budget. o ESNY adds to Budget. o No final decision made – Next meeting March 2nd. o Motion by John Russell to hire part time project manager for the Education Center & 4-H Park project; seconded by Al Gibbs. Vote taken; motion approved unanimously. o Motion by John Russell to apply for a $200,000 Line of Credit from a local bank with the best rate for development of the Education Center & 4-H park project; seconded by Jim Monroe. Vote taken; motion passed unanimously. Strategic Planning – Scheduling meeting date. Nominating Committee Campaign Committee – Lucy Joyce & Peggy Kral reported for Hazel Goldstein o Bountiful Harvest Celebration – Saturday, Sept. 26th o 4-H Showcase – Saturday, July 25th CCE 100th Year Celebration o 4-H Showcase opens July 22nd – Ribbon Cutting of Park o Next meeting, march 12th at 3:00 PM o Duck Derby scheduled for Oct. 17th o Farm Toy Show being discussed – Nov. 21st o Other events being discussed.
Construction Oversight – Al Gibbs o New chairpersons – Jim Presutti & Tom Davis. o Developing timeline. o Looking at 3 Barns going up in the spring. o Specs need updating. o Private donor for restroom with shower – meeting to be set up. o Stan Spencer accepted part time position. o Town has new engineer. Program Reports: 4-H Youth Development – Jerome Christie o March 12th – Presentation on Specials Needs – working with youth and adults – trying to establish guidelines for Association. o 4-H Leaders Association – Bylaws adopted. MOA signed. Agriculture – Maire Ullrich o Portrait – new brochure – distributed. o Rockland County has asked for assistance from Horticulture educator – working out details for sharing Rose Baglia and her duties. Family & Consumer Sciences – Jim Conklin o Training calendar for spring being developed. o July 25th celebration – old time films/old time games discussed by the Advisory Committee. o Open position update – 21 applications received – interviews next week.
