The Cotswold 2000 project is a streetscape redesign for over 90 blocks of downtown Houston. SWA collaborated in preparing a master plan as well as providing landscape architectural services with the goal of providing a pedestrian-friendly environment to support the retail, entertainment, and residential uses that are revitalizing Houston. The design includes new street lighting, street trees, sidewalk paving, water features and a public art program. The concept for the major amenity corridor portion of the project, “Tapping the Aquifer,” is a series of points where water beneath the city will penetrate the ground and create water fountain features and art, each point unique and serving as a reference to history or as a portal to a particular area of downtown.
