Court Fields School New Uniform Court Fields School is now an academy. Governors and the leadership team are committed to driving school improvement so that every child achieves, belongs and participates in the full range of learning opportunities that we offer. Our goal is to be recognised by students, parents, our community and Ofsted as an outstanding school. Ofsted recently stated that Court Fields School 'requires improvement' so it is clear that we need to make the necessary changes that will make a difference to student outcomes. Over the coming year or two we will be introducing new initiatives that we know will have a significant and positive impact on student achievement. To support this goal and embed our values and high expectations we are changing Court Fields School uniform from September 2014 from polo shirts and sweatshirts to formal blazers, shirts and ties.
We believe that a more formal uniform will:
instil a sense of pride amongst students in their appearance developing self esteem and confidence
assist in developing student pride in representing Court Fields School
command respect and strong social bonds amongst students, heightening their sense of belonging and value
create a strong and cohesive school identity
create a positive image of Court Fields School within our local community
support our high expectations of learning and achievement
support our high expectations of positive behaviour and discipline
prepare students for the workplace
A new school uniform policy is currently being written in consultation with peer parliament and Governors who will agree the policy in June. The uniform policy will then be published online so that parents and students have plenty of time to purchase appropriate uniform ready for September 2014.
Feedback from consultation:
6.5% of families (9% including Facebook) and 7% of students submitted representation regarding our proposed uniform change.
Of these 54% of families (65% including Facebook) and 76% of students agreed with the move to blazers, shirts and ties. 26% of families (21% including Facebook) and 24% of students disagreed, whilst 20% of families (16% including Facebook) did not agree nor disagree but raised a number of issues or considerations if the proposal went ahead, the main one being the cost.
93% of families and students did not give representation so it is assumed that they support whatever decision the Governors made.
It is clear from speaking to our new Peer Parliament members that students are looking forward to this change.
There were some queries that parents had which I would like to address: Year 7-10 wear a formal uniform from September 2014 (Year 11 is optional in 2014 but will be compulsory from September 2015) This means that it is only current Year 6,7,8 and 9 parents who will be required to purchase new uniform. Year 11 (current Year 10) will wear the normal sweatshirt which is black. In the event that Taunton Uniforms run out of stock then students can purchase the new jumper or continue to wear their blue jumper if it still fits. •
There will be an optional black V neck jumper to wear under blazers which will have the new black and white Court Fields emblem. No other jumper is permitted.
•
Both boys and girls wear clip on ties. These will be purchased online from Trutex. They will be in house colours.
•
Standard collared white shirts will not have the school emblem, so can be purchased from any retailer such as Asda, Sainsbury’s and Matalan. This is the same for formal black tailored trousers, skirts and formal black leather/leather like shoes.
•
Students will be allowed to wear a plain white T-shirt or vest top under their shirts as long as it does not come below the shirt length and both are expected to be tucked in.
•
There is one supplier for blazers, ties and optional jumpers. This is Trutex. Trutex have an online shop only (this keeps the cost down). Parents will purchase blazers, ties and jumpers online. Trutex deliver within 5 working days. We will keep the full range of sizes in school so that students can try on blazers and jumpers enabling parents to purchase the correct size for their child.
•
Trutex will have a stand at our Year 6,7,8 and 9 parents evenings this year so that students can try on blazers, ties and jumpers ensuring that parents purchase the correct sizes online.
•
There will be a 'New 2 U' shop in school where students / parents can purchase good quality second hand uniform. Clearly this facility will not run until students have started to grow out of their uniform in approximately a years’ time.
•
Parents who qualify for free school meals may apply for financial assistance to purchase the new uniform.
•
Current polo shirts and sweatshirts will be incorporated into our PE kit for one year only. There are no plans to change the PE kit.
•
Student leadership and achievement badges will be worn on blazer lapels.
•
Students will wear a plain waterproof coat if they wish in wet and cold conditions.
•
Girls are allowed to wear skirts or trousers.
This shows that the formal uniform will only cost an additional £16 approximately.
