INSTRUCTIONS With A and pair of needles, cast on 34 sts. Work in garter st (knit every row) for 4" [10 cm]. Change to MC and set of four smaller doublepointed needles. 1st rnd: Knit, inc 10 sts evenly across. 44 sts. Divide onto 3 needles (14, 14, 16) sts. Join in rnd, placing marker on first st. Knit in rnds for 10" [25.5 cm]. Make heel: Slip last 11 sts from 3rd needle and first 11 sts from first needle onto one needle for heel, having marker in center. Leave 22 sts on 2 needles for instep. Break MC.
SIZES From top to heel = 12" [30.5 cm]
With WS of work facing and smaller needles, join A and proceed across heel sts as follows: 1st row: (WS). Sl1. Knit to end of row. 2nd row: Sl1. Knit to end of row. Rep last 2 rows until heel measures 2" [5 cm].

Work in stocking st, inc 1 st each end of needle on next 4 rows. 11 sts. Work 6 rows stocking st. Dec 1 st each end of needle on next 4 rows. 3 sts rem. Cast off. Thread MC around outer edge of piece. Place inside small amount of A. Pull tightly to form ball. Fasten securely. Twisted Cord: Cut 4 strands of MC 54" [137 cm] long. With all strands tog hold one end and with someone holding other end, twist strands to the right until they begin to curl. Fold the 2 ends tog and tie in a knot so they will not unravel. The strands will now twist themselves together. Adjust length if desired. Sew one pompom to each end of twisted cord. Attach twisted cord to stocking and make loop as illustrated.
