CREATING A WARM WELCOME FOR NEW HIRES With these few, simple tips, you can make your new hires feel right at home – Kindred at Home!
Welcome Aboard 1. Call your new hire several days ahead of their first day to say “Hi! We are so excited to have you on our team and can’t wait for you to join us! 2. Prepare a workstation 3. Add a small badge or sign to their desk that says “Say Hi, I’m New !” 4. Give them a welcome certificate or card that everyone has signed. 5. Shower them with welcome gifts - a mug, water bottle, journal for note taking, plant, office supply bag, etc. 6. Recruit a “buddy” or preceptor to take the new hire to lunch. Getting to Know You 7. Display an easel board that welcomes the new employee. Attach balloons and the employee’s picture next to the welcome board and post their name on a bulletin board so that the “seasoned” employees can learn the new hire’s name. 8. Host an employee scavenger hunt - list the names of the office employees and instruct the new hire to go and get to know their new team and what they do for the company. Each team member the new hire meets has to sign off acknowledging the meet and greet. Productivity at Its Finest 9. Make sure that the room that they will be sitting in is clean and comfortable, that their computer is functioning and update-to-date, that their phone is working, and that *6 on their phone works (mute). 10. Make sure that there are refreshments (fruit and water) in the office. 11. Introduce them to the group in IDG. 12. Provide a phone list for the branch so that the new hire can associate names with titles. 13. Play simple ‘get acquainted’ games for orientation sessions that have more than one new hire – think baby or bridal showers. 14. Celebrate the last day of orientation with a smoothie, milkshake, or ice cream happy hour.
