Creating an Inclusive Workplace Corporate commitment is the cornerstone to creating and implementing inclusive hiring. An inclusive workplace: • Treats every individual with courtesy, dignity and respect • Values each applicant and employee • Creates opportunities for people of all abilities to participate in meaningful ways

Require commitment to start at the top and include ALL levels of the organization Affirm commitment to inclusivity in corporate mission statement, policies and procedures Highlight inclusive hiring commitment and values in marketing and outreach materials Train all staff and provide continuing education on inclusiveness issues Adopt mentor programs Create natural supports such as redirection, asking questions, positive reinforcement, demonstration and feedback among supervisors and colleagues Train and advance individuals of all abilities Provide accessible facilities and services

Create job descriptions and postings that specifically outline essential functions of job requirements so that applicants can accurately assess appropriate skill set Advertise postings in disability and other publications and websites which reach a diversity of applicants Develop a resource list of targeted job fairs, career sites and other sources to expand disability and inclusive hiring outreach Affirm inclusive hiring commitment in company literature and job advertisements Highlight disability friendly and inclusive image in community and media Ensure equal opportunity in the application process
