What is Creating Fame?

Positioning yourself as the go-to person in your field.

Who Would Want to Be Famous? When you’re well known, you hold the cards. People come to you instead of you chasing after them. You choose who you sell to, and who you surround yourself with.

The three levels of Creating Fame

How To Create Your Fame Creating Fame takes lots of uncomfortable action - to succeed you’ll have to do things you haven’t done before, stretch yourself, and be brave. “Leadership is scarce because few people are willing to through the discomfort required to lead.” - Tribes, pg 55

What Makes Someone “Famous”? • Who they associate with • “Social Proof”, testimonials and case studies • How often you see or hear their name • Your relationship with them • Fame is determined by your relationship with just one person. If they view you as famous you are, if they have never heard of you you’re unknown.

Claim Your Fame • What would the #1 person in your field do? • How would they speak about themselves and their business? • What kind of opportunities would they go for? • What would happen if you acted as if you were the top business in your industry? • If you choose to be at the top, that’s what you’ll get • You teach others how to interact with you, and whether to view you as a leader or a follower.

Motivation doesn’t matter. Don’t wait for motivation, pull your motivation from your work. Don’t wait to be charismatic, become more charismatic as you interact with others. Don’t wait for success, create your own.

Why The Internet? “With enough leverage, you can change your company, your industry, and the world. The levers just got longer (for everyone). The web and word of mouth and viruses and outsourcing and the long tail and the other factors involved in social media mean that everyone (every person, all six billion of us) has far more power than ever before. The king and the status quo are in big trouble.” Tribes, pg 37

Initiative = Happiness “The marketplace rewards innovation: things that are fresh, stylish, remarkable and new.” Tribes, pg 36

You Can’t Predict The Future Psychic abilities do not emerge from long periods of deliberate thought. You’ll never know how anything will work out. Give it a shot and see what happens.

My Productivity System • Planning is key • Start with your big goals, then break down the actions that you think might lead to them and put those actions in your calendar • If you plan and execute just one important task per day you’ll be way ahead of the curve! • Set a monthly focus then blast that area for a month (internal systems, increasing traffic, improving your sales conversations, etc) • If you don’t know how to get there, try something and see what happens! Refine as you go.

Inevitability Thinking • What could you do to make the outcome you want inevitable? • Will this choice take you closer towards where you want to be, or farther away from it? • What bumpers do you want in your pinball machine?

How Much Time? • Start with three hours per week • One hour per week on each of the three Creating Fame areas (presence, content, and outreach) • Pick a day and time and schedule these into your calendar • Everything is the most difficult in the beginning, but you’ll gain momentum and the opportunities will start to snowball • Devote some time now to reap the rewards in your business for a long time down the road
