How to Get What You Want and Get There Fast

You’ll Learn • Why knowing HOW you’ll achieve your goals isn’t as important as you think • The “magic” timeframe that is most effective for goalsetting • Why you should never keep your big vision to yourself • Strategically automating your goals • How far ahead you need to lean out for business success

Why Goal Setting Is So Important When you’re clear on what you want, you have a guide for making decisions - will it bring you closer to your goal or farther away from it?

The Two Types Of Goals Dream Goals: bigger goals of what you want to achieve (keynote a conference), financial goals Action Goals: measurable, specific goals of projects and tasks that you want to execute (pitch three conferences as a keynote speaker) Action goals pave the way for dream goals.

How To Set Achievable Goals • Your goals should be something measurable and concrete “be interviewed on local or national TV news show” instead of “get on TV” • When determining your action goals make sure that you have full control over them. You can control “call 5 potential clients this week”. You cannot control “sign 5 new clients this week” • The best goals excite and inspire you! Pushing ourselves forward is hard, it happens out of inspiration not obligation.

The Big “How” You don’t know what you don’t know, if you knew exactly how you would have done it already! Don’t worry if you don’t understand exactly how you’ll get there, just keep moving forward step by step.

Pull Your Action Goals From Your Dream Goals • Write down at least 5 dream goals you want to achieve over the next year • Do your best guess to break these down into action goals remember you won’t know exactly how yet because this is new material! • It’s always the most difficult to see the path for ourselves if a friend wanted to achieve that dream goal, what would your advice for them be? • Push your comfort zone and remember that it can’t hurt to give something a try - you will always learn something and it’s all part of the process

Why I Love Quarterly Goals • One quarter (three months) is long enough to get a project done but not so long you can keep pushing things off • This time frame allows you to keep your eye on the prize, and your goals forefront in your mind • Set 1-3 action goals for each quarter and prominently display them - write them on your wall calendar, put them as your desktop background • Some examples of our company’s past quarterly goals: write yearlong affiliate marketing plan, publish 3 guest posts, create opt-in and follow-up sequence for Zero to Website, complete online media kit

Craft Your Time From Your Goals • Use your quarterly goals to reverse-engineer your plan for the year and focus your time • Because you will learn the “how” as you go, it’s OK to refine midstream but start with a plan • When you aren’t sure what to do, go back to your quarterly goals and break them down into smaller tasks that you can take action on • Even when you’re unsure if you’ll end up in the right place, keep putting one foot in front of the other

How To Automate Your Goals When an action goal works, make it a habit. If you notice that doing interviews increases your traffic, make it a habit to contact one source that does interviews per week or month. Add it to your calendar or to-do list.

Calendar Everything • Use google calendar to have an easy to access, easy to change calendar • When you want to put something in your life (such as your quarterly goals) stick it on your calendar. It doesn’t matter if you pick the right day or frequency, you can adjust as you go. • For example, if you want to be a better networker add an appointment to your calendar every Monday to catch up with business contacts - use google calendar to make it reoccurring

Don’t Keep It To Yourself! Every opportunity comes from another human being. If no one knows your goals, they can’t help your achieve them. Tell anyone and everyone what you’re up to - you never know where your next big chance will come from!

Five Year Goals? • I don’t set goals for past one year, my life and business change too much too rapidly to plan out any more than that! • Remember that things take as long as you believe that they will - you can achieve HUGE goals outrageously fast if you dedicate yourself to a tighter timeframe. • Do what inspires you and moves you - if longer goals work for you, set them! • But you don’t HAVE to set five year or even two year goals!

You’re The Boss Remember that the only one determining what can and can not be done is you! Every standard and “rule” has an exception. Make a decision to have what you want and that’s precisely what will happen.
