CRIME STOPPERS DELIVERS RECORD ARREST RATES Victorians are in safe hands, with community crime fighting organisation Crime Stoppers Victoria (CSV) recording the highest arrest rates in its 28 year history. Thanks to the confidential information received from members of the community, a record breaking 1,455 arrests were made between July 2014 and July 2015, up by 175 arrests from the previous year. Public information received throughout the year has helped solve one murder investigation, 21 sexual assaults, 28 armed robberies, 42 serious assaults, six robberies, eight clandestine drug laboratories, 117 hydroponic grow houses and three arson offences. As a not for profit community organisation, Crime Stoppers relies on information from the community to help solve crime, and the latest results show the power that community members can have in helping to bring criminals to justice. “Crime Stoppers relies on a strong partnership with Victorians to help solve crimes, and our latest results highlight the confidence that the community has in our organisation and our mission,” Crime Stoppers Victoria CEO Samantha Hunter said. “We know that even the smallest piece of information can help locate wanted persons and solve crimes, and we urge the public to continue to be our eyes and ears and report any information they may have about crime or anything suspicious they might see happening in their neighbourhoods. “Making a report to Crime Stoppers is completely confidential, and as simple as calling 1800 333 000, visiting our website at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au or downloading our free smart phone app,” said Ms Hunter. “As a community we often under-estimate the difference we can make towards creating a safer community. Every Victorian has a role to play either by reporting crime or by supporting Crime Stoppers by donating online.

The latest arrest rates have been supported by the roll out of community awareness campaigns right across the state, designed to help the community understand what they should look out for and what information they should report to Crime Stoppers. The Crime Stoppers Bushfire Arson and Reckless Fires Regional Roadshow took the bushfire arson message to urban fringe and regional communities across Victoria over the summer months, educating residents about suspicious fire behaviour and the need to be vigilant, particularly in hot weather. In a bid to tackle the flow of crystal methamphetamine (ice) and other illicit drugs into regional areas head on, Crime Stoppers has also taken its innovative Dob in a Dealer program to 14 different regional towns. The program is funded by the Victorian Government’s Community Crime Prevention Program and run in collaboration with Victoria Police With the help of residents in these regional centres, the program has already delivered a striking 215 per cent increase in the number of community information reports received by Crime Stoppers about methamphetamines and other drugs.
