CSD3 2017 SCIENCE EXPO!
Dear CSD3 Principals, We look forward to your school’s participation in our first CSD3 Science Expo. We will be celebrating the progression of science learning by bringing teachers, students, families from Kindergarten through Grade 12 together to showcase exemplary CSD3 student science projects to each other and to our neighbors. When is our expo? Saturday, April 22 11:00A – 1:00P Where? Urban Assembly for Green Careers – 145 West 84 Street (btw Amsterdam & Columbus Aves.) Cafeteria Your school will: Designate a 2017 Science Expo Coordinator and have that person e-mail Tracy McClaire confirming his/her assignment by March 17, 2017. Submit one project per grade. Individual student, team or class projects may be submitted for grades K-5. Team or individual projects are to be submitted for grades 6-12. NOTE: There is a maximum of 4 student presenters per project. It is the Science Expo Coordinator’s responsibility to confirm attendance at the expo by your school’s student presenters. See the attached project rubrics for grades K-2; 3-5 and 6-12. These are to guide you and your expo coordinator in presenting each class’s entry. Projects may be dropped off the evening prior – Friday, April 21 between 3:30P and 6:00P or the morning of the expo – Saturday, April 22 between 9:00A – 10:00A. At 10:00A a light mid-morning snack provided by Book Culture Book Stores will be given to student presenters. We will begin at 11:00a with greetings from our Superintendent, electeds and other VIPs. Projects must: Be displayed on tri-fold boards and follow the grade specific rubric guidelines which are attached. I have attached an Elementary Science Expo Display example to assist. Be an observational study, experimental investigation or engineering design project. NOT be dependent on electricity. There will be no electricity available for laptops or other AV equipment. Following will not be permitted due to safety concerns: o o o o
living, dead or preserved (plants or animals) No fungi or bacteria No projects which involve the injury or death of vertebrate animals will be accepted No fresh or preserved human or vertebrate animal tissue may be displayed
Student expo presenters and visiting students should: Be chaperoned at all times by either parents or school personnel. Be prepared to talk confidently about their projects. Understand that our Expo is celebratory – all student presenters will receive recognition!
