rbonne found Dana Shalit of Toronto, Ontario, when she was at an interesting crossroads in her life. As the owner of a successful business, she didn’t have the time and freedom she expected would come with “being your own boss”. Though successful, the demands started to affect her health, and Dana was looking for a change.

I was 28 and owner of a successful event production business I had started two years before. I believed that owning my own business would allow me to have more time and money freedom — isn’t that what happens when you don’t have a “traditional boss”? I always had a passion for charity fundraisers, and I also hoped I would have more time to donate to the causes I believed in. This was not the case. Owning my own business meant that I was managing several clients at the same time, which was similar to having several bosses at the same time. There was no real free time, uninterrupted vacations, or time off. I was working 80–100 hours a week. Two years into my business, the stress of that lifestyle was manifesting in my health. Furthermore, the projects I was most passionate about were falling to the wayside.

I will never forget the first time I met Executive National Vice President Lital Mintz Snir. We were introduced through a colleague’s wife. “I’m building a successful business from my kitchen table,” she said. I didn’t understand. No one had ever said that to me before. “How?” I asked skeptically. She proceeded to walk me through the Discover Arbonne Presentation. Parts of the presentation intrigued me. First, Lital spoke about trends. I could see that this was a 30-plus-year-old health and wellness company at the brink of globalization. It was an expanding opportunity with the Dana with NVP Chantale Oliveira and RVP Melanie Groom.

stability and research and development of an older company. Both the health and wellness and network marketing industries were booming and were catching the eyes of some of the world’s top business people. Second, she spoke about the income opportunity. At that point in my life, I was looking for a plan B and a way to make a little more income so I could let go of some clients and concentrate my efforts on the kind of projects that I loved to do. Furthermore, I knew in my line of business, if I injured myself I wouldn’t be able to work so I needed a back-up plan. I didn’t know that Arbonne was the plan B that would eventually become my plan A. I had many fears to overcome. What if it doesn’t work? What will people think of me? I used that fear as fuel and jumped in anyway. If there are others out there who were able to make this work, then why not me? This was the first time anyone had offered me a chance at time and money freedom, and I wasn’t going to let it go.

I worked Arbonne alongside my very full-time career and multiple volunteer obligations. At the beginning I could only work Arbonne about five hours a week. One of the amazing things about Arbonne is that it allows you to leverage your time. By teaching others how to also work a few hours a week, my business would eventually represent thousands of hours worked while I worked on a part-time basis.
I was surrounded by proof that this business worked, but I knew to be the best leader possible for my team, I needed personal growth. I started working on myself from the inside out: personal development courses, eating right, going to the gym and overall self-exploration. I searched for my inner peace to let go of the need for control. In my gut I knew I would get there if I led from the front and kept putting this amazing opportunity and product in front of others. My business continued to grow both in Canada and internationally, and through the power of technology I never left my home, coaching and mentoring others online. In May 2014, three years into my Arbonne business, we became the Shalit Nation, a moment I will never forget. My life is so incredibly different now. Arbonne has allowed me to pursue my passions as a philanthropist. I now run an amazing not-for-profit organization that brings arts programming to underprivileged children around the world. I have travelled to Kenya, Haiti, and most recently to India building schools and affecting the lives of some of the world’s poorest children. My life now is a life by design. I work from home with some of my closest family and friends. I travel consistently, and my bucket list is constantly expanding. Arbonne is the vehicle to have the life of my dreams. Three years ago, I was a completely different person. I knew then that if I continued doing what I was doing then I would have continued to get what I was getting. I chose to step off the “hamster wheel” and see if this worked. And boy, did it work! I encourage each of you to take that leap of faith and allow yourself to build the life of your dreams! You deserve it. If it weren’t for my family, friends and amazing team, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
The mentorship and support available helped me make quick decisions. I didn’t need to spend time analyzing the business or recreating the wheel. It is a duplicable system for success, which can ultimately ensure your success if you work consistently and don’t quit. Within a year, I was an Executive Area Manager, making a consistent income from my part-time business. I became a student of the industry and grew my belief that this was not only a way, but the best way. Network marketing removes all the middlemen and ultimately allows a company to provide a good quality product at an economical price while still being able to invest in research in development and compensate their sales force.
