I've been keeping myself busy with work and various volunteer roles which connect with environment and sustainability. It's been a great pleasure to be engaged with so many great organisations with many different stories and experiences behind them. Please have a look around!

Green Army Horticulture experience and garden maintenance at the National Rhododendron Gardens for 5 months (temporary contract job) Functioned in small teams while ensuring safety and best practice when undertaking activities such as integrated weed management, nursery work, sign making, landscaping and planting. Took the initiative to compile an original list of species encountered in the gardens, to assist in plant identification for the group, and to distinguish natives from exotics, and properly identifying weedy species. Generating this original list of plants wasn't part of the Green Army program, but I desired to expand my knowledge and hopefully help others in our group, since we all came from very diverse backgrounds with varying levels of knowledge. VGen VGen is World Vision's youth movement which primarily aims to educate and empower youth to take action against global social justice issues. VGen is based in many different universities and schools, including Deakin, in which we organised events and promoted campaigns as a DUSA club.

2) Teamwork: Environment & Sustainability Deakin Hallmarks Teamwork CloudDeakin One main focus is the promotion of Fair Trade on campus, which Fair Trade encourages social, economic and environmental sustainability in product commodities such as cotton, coffee and chocolate.
From over 3 years of being president of VGen has involved many experiences in working with teams, including event management, educating and communicating to club members and students, and keeping dialogue with club executives with campaigns and project delivery. My role in the VGen club was to act as a convenor to keep the club community going, as well as being the main person of contact and support from other VGen groups beyond Deakin. One example of working with club members and executives, is where we conducted a campuswide survey to identify where ethical products were being sold. I later created a map based on the data collected which was then distributed around campus to inform others.
VGen collaborated with other DUSA clubs in running and managing events. One particularly massive event was planned across 4 different DUSA clubs to host a Comedy Ball, I was on the committee representing VGen and we organised a Fair Trade lolly bar as well as assisting with promotion and marketing of the event. I had created resources such as a training document to help executives run general club matters, and an application help sheet for the Fair Trade India Experience VGen Club Training Document Fair Trade India Application Template *You can find the supporting documents at the bottom of the page*

Whitehorse Education Program Assisting in educational excursions at Blackburn Lake Sanctuary, teaching various topics such as land use, water systems, native fauna, flora and weeds, and fire management to children of a wide variety of ages from kindergarten up to year 11. Working with the supervisor, other education volunteers, teachers and parents. I was giving talks and answering questions as we take a tour around the Sanctuary, and offering an extra hand with organised activities with the children. One example: working with another volunteer who was in charge of a group of 15 children (two volunteers per group), he was quite ill and had to sit out, I took on the group myself while working more closely with the parents to ensure the activity was still running smoothly. I later received an email from supervisor thanking me for taking on the extra work.
Volunteering in environmentrelated events
Involvement in various events surrounding the subject of environmental matters and sustainability such as the Sustainable Living Festival (SLF), the Sustainable Food and Wine Festival (SF&WF), Whitehorse Spring Festival, and the Climate Reality Project with Australian Conservation Foundation. Some of these events, when volunteering at the time, was quite a step outside my comfort zone as the roles are very peopleorientated which helped me develop interpersonal and customer service related skills. This was especially the case with the Sustainable Living Festival and the Climate Reality Project, which required constant communication and coordination of event operation. I have been part of the SLF volunteering team for about 2 years, and was particularly noteworthy when working in teams: During bumpin and bumpout required engagement and communication among stall holders, supervisors and volunteers to ensure we were all on the same page, which was vital in large festival events with nearly a hundred volunteers and many more visitors from the public. Assisting in mobile recycling education program with school children, worked with supervisor with tasks Wash Against Waste a production line for cleaning reusable plates, cups and cutlery to reduce the reliance on disposables and preventing waste for landfill. This task was very team orientated as each person had their own role, and occasionally rotated duties. Public waste education for what goes in the right bin, worked in pairs and spoke with the public on correct disposal and recycling.
CERES and Bungalook Nursery Volunteered at two different nurseries and assisted in the propagation and maintenance of seedlings, both of which involved group work in a systematic production line. CERES is an environmental park which encourages organic permaculture throughout all of its procedures, where I was a propagation assistant for the Professional Practice unit. Bungalook is a local nursery based in Vermont, and is part of the Whitehorse Community Indigenous Plant Project (WCIPP). Bungalook propagates native tubestock to be used for vegetation projects around the municipality, from councils, local residents to schools and friends groups.
Friends Below the Lake Attend monthly working bees where we work together with other local volunteers to remove introduced weeds and plant indigenous species, in order to revegetate a habitat corridor neighbouring Blackburn Lake Sanctuary.
