Teamwork has a lot of associated transferrable skills and valuable experiences which I've had the pleasure of being involved in. Although it's not directly linked to environmental sustainability, here's a few extra examples of working in groups for various causes. Rotaract & Rotary engagement I participated and helped organise numerous fundraiser events with other fellow Rotaractors and Rotarians, which aim to provide service to the community, both locally, nationally and abroad. The roles have been many and varied, as well as actively contributing to meeting discussions on club matters and potential ideas for fundraising events. Currently, I am the International director at Whitehorse Rotaract, which involves planning and organising committees within our group to deliver programs and events that aim to make a difference on international issues and/or raise awareness of international matters. My first project was getting a group of us walking up the 1000 Steps as part of the "Do it in a Dress" event, which raises funds to help girls in Sierra Leone get an education. "Do it in a Dress" is a fun event where we wear school dresses (or school skirts) as a symbolic way to help girls abroad to wear a school dress and improve their future prospects.
Below are a few other things I've done with Rotaract and Rotary in teams: First Friday dinner At the first Friday of each month, Rotary club of Mont Albert and Surrey Hills assist the disadvantaged and marginalised by providing a warm cooked meal and dessert, to enjoy some free food while socially reconnecting with others from the local community.

3) Teamwork: Elsewhere! Deakin Hallmarks Teamwork CloudDeakin I helped prepare and serve food at the counter, as well as organising doggy bags of any food left over for people to take home and reduce food waste. Beauford tree planting Working with a landcare group to revegetate private farm property Worked in a large group digging holes, planting, setting up weed mats and preparing leaf guards, up to 10,000 natives were planted that day. We coordinated and alternated the different roles to increase efficiency. RYLA Rotary Youth Leadership awards Week long seminar on positive leadership and teamwork, developed more confidence and proactivity when functioning in supportive group environments Farmer's market stall and bread stall Egg and bacon stall, a team production line with various roles Also got involved at this year's Deakin Open Day, fundraising for our Rotaract club by selling bread from BreadStreet
Nintense Gaming Australia (NGA) Collaboration with a team of NGA Staff, hosting a variety of video game tournaments entirely on a volunteer basis. I have assisted in crowd control and technical support to ensure smooth operation of events. Events involved constant coordination and communication with staff on the day, especially when managing crowds of up to 80 people. Our events tend to be quite experimental, coming up with different tournament formats for each video game. But above all, we want to make it fun and enjoyable for everyone. When not running events, I support the group through researching relevant news articles and sharing them on our social media page to evoke discussion on shared interests and keep the community growing and thriving. Community consists of gaming enthusiasts, tournament participants and the NGA Staff. Regular meetings over Skype with NGA Staff to follow up before and after events, mainly to clarify on logistics and event planning.
Deakin Sings Spent a year singing in a community choir at Deakin, one thing I really got out of this was the peripheral awareness of everyone else's role, not just my own efforts, and how we were progressing as a team. This valuable experience has still carried with me to this day. I had an Alto singing role, and helped as a cue guide for other Altos one day when the conductor couldn't make it, which led to the rehearsal being run entirely by students.

3) Teamwork: Elsewhere! Deakin Hallmarks Teamwork CloudDeakin This helped develop awareness of team cohesion, which involved harmonising of parts (projecting the right pitch to compliment the other roles), keeping to tempo, and knowing cues on when to start singing. Complimenting your work with the rest of the team is important to good team work.
Campaign for Australian Aid planning Contributing to discussion on the promotion of the Australian Aid budget, and campaigning for more support within the Deakin Electorate. Which includes community and political engagement. Relatively novel ideas with raising awareness and engagement when educating others in the community, making a fun school competition not only involves the students, but also school staff and parents. Joint efforts to plan and implement an art and writing contest in primary and secondary schools, with the theme of fairness and generosity in connection with Australian Aid. We've held regular meetings to brainstorm and refine ideas, and helped out in groups by attending a stall to start the conversation about the campaign.
