The third in a series of twelve blocks, this project will have you experiencing ¼” seam sewing, using the professional grade HP needle plate and HP foot. Add some stitches created in Stitch Composer, stacked with modified built-in stitches and you have continued taking steps toward creating an unique sampler quilt. Janome Supplies Required: • Horizon Memory Craft 9400 QCP • Professional Grade HP Needle Plate and foot • Satin Stitch foot F • Blue Tip needle Fabric and Notions: • Michael Miller Cotton Couture solids: > 14” X 8” Gold
2. Attach HP needle plate and foot.

4. Thread needle and bobbin with cotton thread. 5. Unlock machine. Preparation: 1. Sew strips together along the long edge using the right hand edge of foot as ¼” guide. 2. Press seams open.
• Neutral color cotton thread
3. Saturate pieced square with Terial Magic. Hang to dry approximately 15-20 minutes, then press dry.
• Royal Blue Embroidery thread
4. Lock machine and attach zigzag needle plate.
• Hot Pink Embroidery thread
5. Thread needle with embroidery thread for all decorative stitches.

Vase: 1. Draw an outline of a vase with a fabric marking pen on gold fabric.
Using the professional grade HP plate and foot will assure you of precise stitches and traditional ¼” seams. 1. Lock machine.

14. Stitch around the outside of vase: Appliqué mode > #11 > Width 2.2 Length .55 Click on the black sizing handles in the corners of the image to resize and place the image on the grid lines. Note: Be sure to click SHOW and LOCK to see and lock the image in place. 15. Sew a frame around 3 sides of vase: Decorative mode > Stitch #21.
4. Using image as a guide, click at each point a stitch is desired. Stitch Composer
5. Make sure to add connecting stitches at the beginning and end of the stitch pattern.
Stitch Composer allows you to create any style or shape of stitch pattern. Stitch patterns are easier to create using an image as a backdrop to trace a specific shape. The butterfly stitch was traced using a clipart image. Stitch Composer can open images in the following formats: *.bmp, *.jpg, *.gif, *.png 1. Open Stitch Composer in PC.

Decorative Stitch Block 6. Click Lock Stitch, to automatically add; beginning locking stitch, looping stitch, and ending locking stitch. 7. Select the Simulation Tab > Play to view the stitches as it will be sewn.
Free Hand Drawing: 1. Try creating stitches by drawing a simple design such as a tree to learn how to position the stitches for the best effects.
Note: Read the included tutorial by clicking “?” in the upper right corner of the screen for detailed instructions. 8. When the stitch pattern is complete, insert a USB stick in computer. From Home tab, click Write a design.
2. Click Lock Stitch, to automatically add; beginning locking stitch, looping stitch, and ending locking stitch. 3. Write to USB. Sewing Created Stitches:
9. Open the destination folder on the USB, rename if desired, and then click the red arrow to write the *.stx file.
1. Insert USB stick in machine. Open. 2. Select USB icon, navigate to destination folder and select stitch pattern.
Note: Created Stitches can be used in combination with any other stitches. 3. Complete the block by sewing several vertical rows of created stitches, alternating with the built in stitches.
4. Wash square to remove stabilizer and markings. 5. Press and then square up to 12 ½”.
