Board of Education‐ struggled with the decision to invest in a library space. What is the future of printed material? Good use of taxpayer dollars? Should we invest in a library or classroom space? Two current Board members were former Hadley students. Both saw the potential.
Planning • District 41 gathered input from teachers, administrators, parents and students over a four month period. • Solution: re‐define the library space • Collaborative, flexible 21st century learning space for students, staff and community • Promote problem based learning with a focus on student collaboration, not the traditional quiet library space
Design Building Data: • Original building: 1954 • 5 additions • Last addition: 2012 • 1,238 students • Building area: 141,330 sf • Site area: 13.27 acres

Existing LMC
Design General library design objectives: • The new space needs to be dynamic. Student discussions and collaboration are encouraged. Furniture is easily re-configured. • The LMC should be able to house 5+ classes at a time and be converted to seminar/lecture space for 200+ audience. • Book storage goal - reduce the collection to 12,000-14,000 volumes. • Create a non-traditional space for student collaboration. Create flexible spaces for students to study individually, work together in small groups, and have full class size instruction. • Seating must support technology and the use of laptops. • Provide writeable wall surfaces for idea walls. Provide spaces to display student work.
