The International Cricket Council wishes to appoint a
Development Manager - Asia
The International Cricket Council (“ICC”) is the global governing body for the sport, which administers all aspects of international cricket. Its Development Programme has specific strategic objectives aimed at the sustainable development and strengthening of the sport globally. We are currently seeking a Development Manager for Asia based in the ICC Office, in Dubai. The role is responsible for managing the ICC’s significant investment in Asia which is designed to increase participation, improve the competitiveness of international cricket and build awareness of the game. Fundamental to the success of the investment is a strong and effective partnership with the ICC Members in Asia and supporting them in delivering their strategic plans is an important aspect of the job. This position is also responsible for overseeing regional qualifying events as a pathway to ICC major events. Principal Accountabilities Responsibilities of the Development Manager – Asia will include but are not limited to the following:
Developing and delivering an annual operational plan which details how the ICC Growth Strategy will be delivered in Asia on an annual basis, providing:
Significant growth in participation;
Sustained competitive excellence; and
Increased access to cricket.
Driving the growth of cricket across Asia, in partnership with ICC Members, through:
Developing participation and education initiatives in the region focused on the growth of the game; and
Sharing of best practice across members.
Assisting in building strong, effective and fit for purpose Members in Asia:
Acting as a ‘critical friend’ to targeted Members at senior management / board level, supporting their organisational development, strategic planning and annual planning;
Facilitating regular ‘check and challenge’ conversations with targeted Members;
Fostering the application of excellent corporate governance within all Members in Asia;
Playing a key role in targeted Members annual review / planning / budgeting processes and annually agree a support package to enhance the capacity of Members; and
Developing a network of contacts amongst sports industry stakeholders in targeted Members.
Overseeing the delivery of Asia qualifying events as a pathway to ICC major events;
Maintaining and growing relationships with the four ICC Full Members in Asia and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC);
Maintaining strong relationships with other partners, or potential partners, in Asia, including the organisers of Multi Sport Games (Asian Games, SEA Games);
Playing an active role in the ICC Global Development Team:
Being a key Member of the ICC Global Development Team, connecting regularly with counterparts in other locations on global initiatives, sharing of good practice and ensuring a globally consistent approach.
Knowledge, Skills, Attitude and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area;
Experience of managing sports participation programmes and education initiatives;
Proven expertise in sports management with good understanding of best practice sport development;
A record of organisational leadership and team development;
Proven financial management expertise and experience in managing multi-million dollar budgets;
Demonstrated experience in - and understanding of - the game of cricket;
Strategic planning and implementation skills;
Demonstrated ability to conceive, construct, prioritise and deliver complex projects in disciplines including international cricket tournaments;
Experience in the application of excellent corporate governance – ideally in a sporting context; and
Significant experience living, working and achieving results in Asia.
Conditions of employment
The position reports to the ICC’s Development Services Manager, and is based in Dubai;
The selected candidate to furnish two recent work references;
As part of the role , a reasonable amount of international and domestic travel will be required; and
Compensation offered will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
