NEW ORLEANS — Scholar Team of the Year and AllAcademic Team honors for the 201516 NCAA Division I Track & Field seasons were announced Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Tennessee men and Arkansas women swept their respective genders’ indoor and outdoor awards as they stood out in the classroom and during competition. Before today, the Volunteer men hadn’t been recognized as a Scholar Team of the Year (the women won in 2009 and 2010 for outdoor track & field). This is the fifth and sixth such time that the Razorback women were honored by the Association. In order to be in the running for Scholar Team of the Year, a team must finish highly at the respective national championship and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA. All told, there were 122 men’s teams and 220 women’s teams up for consideration. During the track & field season, no men’s team stood out more than Tennessee when academics and athletics were combined. The Vols wrapped up the academic year with a team GPA of 3.06 and finished third at NCAA Indoors and sixth at NCAA Outdoors. Tennessee had four men earn USTFCCCA AllAcademic Individual honors. This is the fifth year in a row that a team from the SEC was named the Indoor and Outdoor Men’s Scholar Team of the Year and the second consecutive year that one team earned both honors.

WOMEN’S SCHOLAR TEAM AWARD HISTORY
Indoor Track & Field 2016: Arkansas 2015: Arkansas Arkansas’ women had a year to remember as they posted a team GPA of 3.24 and won 2014: Texas their program’s first NCAA Outdoor title. Three months earlier, the Razorbacks finished a 2013: Arkansas close runnerup to Oregon in Birmingham, Alabama at the NCAA Indoor meet (three points 2012: Arkansas
separated them from the Ducks). Twelve women from Arkansas’ team were named USTFCCCA AllAcademic Individual, including double NCAA pole vault champ Lexi Weeks, who is also the Indoor and Outdoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year. The Razorbacks have put a bit of a stranglehold on the Indoor Women’s Scholar Team of the Year Award. Arkansas has won four of the past five honors (Texas was the outlier in 2014).
