John 6:4 says that Jesus was testing Phillip (and the other disciples). What exactly was the test? What ruled Phillip and Andrew’s response to the test? How are we like these two disciples? After the food had been distributed and everyone had eaten, there were twelve baskets of leftovers. Why do you think this was the case? What point was Jesus making? Read 2 Kings 4:42-44. How is this story similar to the feeding of the 5000? How is it different? In John 6:35, we see the first “I am” statement of Jesus. What is the significance of Jesus boldly saying that he is the Bread of Life? Read John 6:35-40 and Exodus 3:13-14.
