Diversity & Inclusion Committee Awards

Purpose: 1

USTA Northern California is committed to promoting and developing tennis growth and participation in all communities and to creating an organization that is more inclusive. To that end, we award those who exemplify our core values, embody integrity and pay tribute to those who have championed the cause for diversity both on and off the tennis court. Award winners will be presented an individual crystal award in recognition of his/her achievements at the USTA NorCal ACES (Awards Celebrating Excellence in Service) Luncheon held in late January 2015.

Award Categories:

1.

USTA NorCal Diversity Committee Mark Manning Icon Award (Individual Crystal Award) To be awarded to an individual for their lifelong service and/or groundbreaking service to tennis, their outstanding leadership and contribution at the national, sectional and local levels of the USTA.

2.

USTA NorCal Diversity Trailblazer Award (Individual Crystal Award) To be awarded to an individual for advocating services and programs be made available to the multicultural tennis community, in particular to those who have not had an opportunity to experience the game- including the LGBT community.

3.

USTA NorCal Diversity Leadership Award (Individual Crystal Award) To be awarded to an individual for outstanding advocating, coaching, mentoring and leadership in the multicultural tennis community.

4.

USTA NorCal Diversity Service Award (Individual Crystal Award) To be awarded to an individual or an organization for their/its role in promoting and enhancing diversity and multicultural participation in the sport and industry of tennis. Further criteria include: 1. Should have successful program(s) through which multicultural youth and/or adults gain access to organized tennis. 2. The individual or program donates considerable time and/or financial resources to the development of multicultural participants in their pursuits both on and off court. 3. The individual or program has made a positive impact on the community. 4. The individual or program emphasizes the importance of discipline, self-esteem, education, community service, responsibility and diversity.

Nomination Requirements 1.

Candidates for the USTA NorCal Diversity Committee Award should submit or have submitted on their behalf a one summary of candidates accomplishments of their organization, program and/or outreach efforts and how this has impacted tennis diversity and inclusion .

Summary should clearly demonstrate the individual’s/ program’s/ organization’s commitment to diversity and multicultural participation and illustrate with specific examples the ways in which multicultural participants have benefited as a result of their efforts. a. b. c.

The attached nominations page should accompany the nominee’s program summary Tennis record, if applicable. Additional supporting materials (letters, publicity, awards, and news clippings) are encouraged.
