LINEA DE INFORMACION DE ESCUELAS EN ESPAÑOL (360)965-0254

The Allen Creek staff is so appreciative of the time each family took to attend parent-teacher conferences. We enjoyed getting to share the growth of the students and goals for the upcoming months of this school year. Thank you again for partnering with us to help your child reach his/her potential. An important part of student success is consistent attendance, including on-time arrival to school. Research has shown that kindergartners who were tardy in kindergarten were 10 times more likely than their on-time peers to be chronically absent in kindergarten and first grade and 3 times more likely than in third and fifth grade. At Allen Creek, we want all of our students arriving on time and attending

school consistently to ensure the greatest chance for school success! Just a few days ago, we had over 40 students tardy to school. We would like to team with our families to make sure students arrive on time and ready to learn. Everyday beginning at 9:05, our gym is open to all students (tardy bell rings at 9:20). Students arrive at 9:05 and sit in their class line and one of our teachers, Ms. Harrington, takes kids through a lesson to begin the day. The lessons focus on strategies students can take with them for the day to help with focus, attention, and self-regulation; readying them for a great day of learning right from the start! The strategies taught provide students with tools to get through more difficult or stressful times of the days. We are

providing them tools that they can use through their lifetime. Many of our teachers come and share in the learning too! We also use this time to focus on our W.A.V.E. and Creating a Ripple Effect… all things to promote a positive culture and climate to provide for a safe and secure learning environment. Please have your students to the gym by 9:05 to allow them a positive start to their day ready to learn beginning at 9:20. We want all of our students participating in the important beginning of the day lessons which will ensure that they are at school on time and ready to learn. With your help, we can reduce (or better eliminate tardies) and provide our kids the best possible chance of success!

Sincerely,

Janelle McFalls

November Character Trait: Respect Respect is “treating others with honor and dignity.”

Everyone has worth and dignity as a human being, whether they are young or old, rich or poor, male or female, or any other difference. This is why you should treat others with honor, dignity, and courtesy instead of bullying, harassing, or manipulating in order to get what you want. You show respect in many ways. For example, when someone is talking, you show respect by being attentive. When you receive a gift, you show respect by saying “thank you.” At work or at home, or at school, you show respect to those counting on you by being responsible, diligent, and thorough. Self-respect means you recognize your own worth as a human being and avoid anything that will damage your mind, body or integrity. This means you do your best no matter who is watching—because what you do revels who you are. Respect does not mean you have to like everyone, and others might not treat you as they should. But even when you disagree with others or have to part ways, you can still treat them with the dignity and respect they deserve. I WILL: 1. Value others. 2. Respect differences. 3. Use good manners. 4. Not bully or harass others.

Is my child sick enough to stay home? The following guidelines will help you decide whether your child is too ill to go to school. Seems very tired and needs bed rest (this is common with flu symptoms). Has vomiting or diarrhea. Becomes short of breath or is wheezing. Has a cough that disrupts normal activity. Fever above 100 degrees. Has distracting pain from earache, headache, sore throat or recent injury. Has yellow or green drainage from eye(s). Breaks out in a rash; not all rashes require that a child stay home from school. Check with your child’s doctor. Your child should stay home if they have a contagious disease like chickenpox, flu, vomiting, diarrhea, colds, strep throat and pinkeye. A disease may be contagious before the child shows signs of illness. It is very hard to prevent the spread of some germs, especially in a school classroom. Good hand washing will help prevent the spread of germs. School is a child’s work. It is important for normal development. If your child is absent often, it may be harder to keep up with the class. It is important that your child not miss more than a few days per year. Ask your doctor if you are not sure about keeping your child home.

How to report an absence: 1. During school hours call the office at 360-965-1100. Or... 2. After hours call the attendance line at 360-965-1101 Or... 3. When the attendance line calls you, you can leave a recorded message. Or... 4. Send a note in with your child within 3 days of their absence.
