Photo Art Blends | Lesson 7 Lesson 7: Using Frames In this section, we’ll show you the fundamentals of how to use our creative photo transfer frames, as well as some variations. They are sized at 8x10, 8.5x11, 12x12, and 18x20. The lesson is short, straightforward, and good to know…. • Open Adobe Photoshop Elements or Adobe Photoshop • Select File > Open. Browse your system for the class kit and select a Frame in the desired style and size (the size is listed in the file name). • Select File > Open and select a photo from your system to place in the Frame. • Click and drag the photo onto the Frame using the move tool. • In the Layers Panel, drag the photo below the frame. • Size and position the photo as needed so it fills the space in the frame. • Save in .psd format to retain layers and allow for future editing. • Save as high quality .jpg to upload to preferred print vendor for printing. See Printing Tips for print vendor suggestions and other printing advice. To alter the colored parts of the frame to be a different color, to match your photo or change it up a bit, follow these instructions: • Open Adobe Photoshop Elements or Adobe Photoshop • Select File > Open. Browse your system for the class kit and select a Frame. • Select Enhance > Adjust Color > Adjust Hue/Saturation (PSE) or Image > Adjust> Hue/Saturation (PS). • To simply change all of the colors in the frame, adjust the Hue slider to the left or right, as well as the Saturation slider, until the desired color is achieved. • To change only one of the colors in the frame, click on the color channel drop-down menu (default is “Master”) and select the color you want to change. • Then adjust the Hue and Saturation sliders until the desired color is achieved. • Continue with Step 3 in the tutorial at the beginning of this lesson.

Tip: If the frame you want to use isn’t the same orientation as your photo (landscape/portrait), Select Image > Rotate (Photoshop: Rotate Canvas) and rotate the frame in any direction you’d like. Try flipping it horizontally or vertically for a totally different look! Here’s another sample of a Frame, along with the Layers Panel.

Another really useful way to use the frames from this class is to take a more traditional scrapbooking approach. Combined with products from our Cottage Arts line, here is an example of a frame used in a digital layout (downsized using the Move Tool). See our realistic drop shadow tutorial here. Supplies used in the layout can be found in the class gallery.
