Alabama’s all-purpose player Tyrone Prothro is tied for first for the longest kickoff return in Alabama history. In 2004, Prothro had a 100-yard kickoff return against Kentucky. He is second on the Alabama career list in kickoff returns with a 26.6 yard average. One of the most memorable kicks in Alabama history was Van Tiffin’s 52-yard field goal against Auburn in 1985. The Tide came from behind to defeat the Tigers as time expired, 25-23. The legacy continues for the Tiffin family as son Leigh now kicks for the Crimson Tide.
The Tide’s Philip Doyle led the nation in field goals in 1989, making 22 of 25. He repeated that feat in 1990 making 24 of 29.
One of the most celebrated kickers in Alabama history, Doyle holds the record for career points at UA with 345 from 1987-90. He also holds the record for field goals in a game (6), season (24) and career (78).
