Peaceful Surrender October 29, 2016 Yesterday, at approximately 3:00 p.m., deputies responded to the Quality Inn & Suites, located at 5251 South Julian Drive, for an officer involved shooting involving a United States Marshal Service led task force. When deputies arrived, they learned the task force was attempting to serve an arrest warrant when the suspect shot at them and barricaded himself inside a hotel room. Deputies assisted with the containment of the suspect and the evacuation of the Quality Inn & Suites. Pima Regional Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) responded and took over the scene. Negotiators were able to open a line of communication with the suspect, which they were able to keep for the next five hours, untill the suspect peacefully surrendered. Pima Regional SWAT has turned the scene over to Pima County Sheriff’s Department detectives who are questioning the suspect in connection with this incident. This is an on-going investigation and more information will be released when it becomes available.
