1 1 T H G R A D E P R E PA R AT I O N L I S T

Juniors! Graduation is fast approaching. Are you ready? You are past the midway point of your high school experience, and there is much to do. •

CONTINUE getting the most out of your challenging courses! Keep track of your progress on your chosen graduation plan. DO NOT fail any of your courses.

Colleges require your ACT or SAT scores be sent to them directly from ACT or College Board. Take these exams in the spring semester of your junior year. Take them seriously. Study. Hard. These exams are an important factor in determining your university admission and scholarship selection. So, again—study. Hard.

Attend College Night. Visit and speak to college and university representatives. Start looking very carefully at the colleges/universities you would like to attend and research what programs interest you. Start determining whether you would like to pursue college here in the Valley, in-state, or out-of-state.

Start working on your Résumé. Start compiling a list of all of your school activities, grades, rank, work, and volunteer hours. Start requesting and collecting Letters of Recommendation from your teachers. It takes time to write a good letter.

Consult with your counselor to ensure you are on track with your graduation plan and grades.

Apply for Summer Programs, Internships, Scholarships, or Work. Some summer programs to consider: (1) Texas A&M College Station [geox.tamu.edu] (2) M.I.T. “Mites” [web.mit.edu/mites/index.html] (3) University of Texas at Austin: Subiendo Academy [www.subiendoacademy.org].
