Ornamental Rice Native to Oryza sativa ‘Black Madras’ Southern Asia Black Madras is a cultivated form of edible rice, native to the tropical regions of Southern Asia, where some 90% of the world’s production is based. Ideally suited to damp areas of the garden, it can equally be grown in containers, as long as plenty of water can be applied. The leaf colour is at it’s strongest in Aug-Sep.
