FACT SHEET: Highways State Route (SR) 152 Trade Corridor Project Project Description Santa Clara and San Benito counties are working together to develop and deliver infrastructure improvements to the SR 152 Trade Corridor from U.S. 101 to I-5. The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) in coordination with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is leading the development of this project. This project includes the realignment of SR 152 between U.S. 101 and SR 156, and the east bound truck climbing lanes over Pacheco Pass. The improvements would accommodate the long-term travel needs of commercial, commuter, and recreational traffic and result in an economically viable, safe, and efficient highway system that would enhance the quality of life for the local communities and economic vitality of the region. Improve mobility between the Bay Area, Salinas Valley and Central Valley Improve reliability of travel times Reduce traffic congestion Enhance travel safety Support economic vitality of southern Santa Clara and northern San Benito counties
Outcomes • Complete SR 152 as a continuous four-lane facility between U.S. 101 and SR 156 • Remove regional traffic from Gilroy and local roads • Provide truck climbing lanes over Pacheco Pass Current Activities • Advancing project definition, technical studies, and environmental documentation • Continued stakeholder outreach • Securing additional funding Benefits • A new four-lane freeway between SR 156 and U.S. 101, curve corrections and access control improvements will improve safety and reliability of travel time between U.S. 101 and I-5 • The eastbound Pacheco Pass climbing lanes will improve travel times and safety by separating slower moving vehicles from traffic moving at freeway speeds • Separating regional traffic from local traffic by eliminating 114 direct driveway access points to SR 152 Project Funding VTA received $5 million of State funding from the Interregional Improvement Program (IIP), matched with $5 million of VTA’s highway funds and is seeking additional funding from the state.
