Friday 15th July 2016 Dear Families, The ABCs of Success This week we looked at the letter ‘w’. I shared with the children that we raised more than £5,000 at #Woodfest this year and we spoke about how wonderful that is! We are spending £3,000 on new home reading books and
£500
on
resources
for
our
new
quiet
room
in
school. We have also invited our three charities back to school in the Autumn, when we will be able to present them each with a cheque for £500. We are all delighted that
Woodfest
was
such
a
success
again
this
year.
Thanks to everyone who came and helped us raise such a phenomenal amount of money! Sports Day Success! Last Friday the rain cleared away and the whole school enjoyed a brilliant Sports Day! The activities were enjoyed by everyone and it was great to have a family picnic in the middle of the day. Big thanks to Miss Froy, Mr Loundes and Mr Murtagh for making sure the day was well organised and fun for everyone involved. Year Six Leavers Dinner Tuesday saw the beginning of a series of events that will mark the end of an era at Summerswood. Our final single-form entry class leaves us at the end of next week. The leavers dinner is a lovely tradition where the children get to dress in their best
clothes
and
enjoy
a
meal
followed
by
the
opportunity to speak to their classmates in afterdinner speeches. Thanks to Mrs Norman and Mrs Rostron for decorating the hall so beautifully, to Mrs Young, Mrs Parkin, Mrs Larter and Mrs Ely for being gracious waitresses and to Lorraine and Carla for cooking the most wonderful meal. Paralympic Workshop As part of our whole school Rio topic, this week the children had the opportunity to take part in a wonderful workshop. They all got the chance to try out different sports that are played during the Paralympic Games sitting
volleyball.
The
children
– Archery, Wheelchair basketball, Goal Ball and
thoroughly
enjoyed
the
activites
and
got
to
have
an
appreciation for the skill involved in these sports. I’m sure they will enjoy watching the Olympic
and
Paralympic
Games
in
Rio
this
summer.
Thank
you
to
Miss
Alpern
for
organising this great experience. Attendance As we approach the final week of term, please remember how important attendance is. We have many learning opportunities and experiences for the children next week and it is important they attend school every day. RO
