Clapham News Welcome back to school after the Easter break. I hope you all had a wonderful time over the holidays. This term we have some exciting learning opportunities planned for the children. Both Class 1 and Class 2 are learning about the seaside and both classes have some amazing trips planned. Next week the Year 5 children are going on their three day residential to Bewerley Park to enjoy some wonderful activities, I hope the weather stays fine for them and they come back having tried something new and faced some challenges!

Orchestra The Confederation Orchestra run by Mrs. Williams will commence rehearsals for their summer repertoire on Friday 24th April at the usual time. Thank you Mrs. Williams for your wonderful support and of course to the children who make up our special Orchestra from across the three schools!

More great sporting opportunities! The Year 6 children are taking part in a football tournament at Ingleton School on Tuesday 21st April at 4pm. Parents will need to arrange their own transport to and from the event. Please park at Ingleton Community Centre and NOT at the school. We have such a talented group of Year 6 children, I’m sure they will do very well in representing our school. Famous Olympian Rebekah Wilson drops into school For those of you who follow the Winter Olympics, you may have heard of Rebekah Wilson the British bobsleigh brakewoman who won Gold at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Rebekah is part of a new incentive called Sports for Champions, where the children take part in a multi-skills morning to raise money for sports equipment for their school. Rebekah will work with the children during the morning. The children will take home a sponsor form (attached). If you would like to sponsor your child, please fill in the form and return it to school by Thursday 24th April. Prizes will be given out during the day. # Gardening Club We are proposing to run a gardening club at lunchtimes. This will be on a Tuesday and Wednesday after lunch weather permitting. If your child is interested, please bring wellies to school on those days and let school know if you are interested. Afterschool activities Our after school club is becoming very popular and for those children who have not experienced the exciting activities that we provide I am listing what activity runs on what night. Monday Sports Club with Chloe and Andrew Bode followed by board games. Tuesday – Computers Wednesday – Film and outdoor activities. Thursday – Craft Night, bring with you your own ideas and we shall see what we can make. Friday – Film Club – the film showing next Friday is ‘Over the Hedge’ – lights down at 4pm with popcorn at the interval!

What the children said about this week…

This week we enjoyed baking in our Food for Life lesson. We made Greek food using pastry, onion, spinach and cheese. It was really tasty! Class 2 also did P.E. with Mr Bode. We played some really fun tag rugby games and everyone had a good time. Today we have been designing posters to teach children about safety, crime prevention and being a good citizen. Next week the Year fives are really excited about going to Bewerley Park! We are looking forward to a visit from an Olympian who did bobsleigh in the Winter Olympics.
