Success is achieved through hard work and taking calculated risks and the Wares Awards create the opportunity to convert hard earned success into industry wide recognition. The Wares Awards are seen as the highlight of the appliance industry calendar and once again this year we will celebrate and recognise the talents of the industry at a black tie Awards ceremony to be held in Auckland on 14 November. Open to appliance and consumer electronics retailers. This award recognises a young retailer (aged 35 years and under as at 17 July, 2013) who has achieved a high standard in their retailing career. Entrants will ideally be retail assistants, department managers, store managers or shareholders of an appliance or consumer electronics retail store. Entrants to this award will automatically be considered for the Young Achiever Award. Judges will be looking for Innovative retailers working with or leading a team.

Entrants must be able to illustrate their talent and learning curve over their retailing career, demonstrating a positive attitude and outstanding job performance. The judges will also be looking for ambition and initiative. Judging Entries will be evaluated by a judging panel to select semi finalists. These semi finalists will then complete a stage two entry form followed by a mystery shopper analysis. Three finalists then present to the judging panel, on the morning of the Awards.

Recognises and awards a young retailer who shows talent and a real aptitude for retailing. This award requires no specific entry but is part of the Young Retailer of the Year Award. It is awarded to a young entrant who may not reach the finalist stage but in the view of the judges, shows remarkable talent for his/her age. The prize • Travel to the awards night • Industry-wide recognition of their accomplishments • A trophy • An Auckland University Business School’s Short Course programme

Open to appliance and consumer electronics retailers. This award recognises a truly outstanding retailer (no age restraint) who has shown initiative and enterprise in leading their retailing team. Entrants will ideally be owners, managers or JV partners of an appliance or consumer electronics store. Judges will be looking for Maturity in leadership and a passion for the industry as well as the retail store/s they head. Entrants must be able to illustrate an ability to achieve high levels of success for both their store and staff as well as adaptability in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

16 AUGUST Nomination of suitable candidates for these awards will only be by industry retail groups who will nominate their top retail stores. No entry forms are required for this category.

Open to appliance and consumer electronics sales professionals. This award recognises a sales professional active in the appliance and consumer electronics distribution sector who has consistently displayed a high standard of sales professionalism and has a proven sales record. Entrants will be sales representatives or account managers who sell appliances or consumer electronics by visiting retailers instore during a regular call cycle. This is a nationwide award with no age restriction. Judges will be looking for Talented sales professionals who make a positive difference to their company’s sales record and customer’s profits. Candidates will be judged on steps taken to help retailers in their business and how proactive they are in service and product knowledge, actioning returns and providing warranties. Entrants must be able to demonstrate accomplishments and their ability to close a sale. Judging A three-stage judging process will apply and includes written entries, survey of finalist’s customer list and presentation to the judging panel on the morning of the Awards. Three Categories: (a) Up to 400m2 of retail showroom area (b) Over 400m2 of retail showroom area (c) Specialty retail (kitchen, audio visual, digital imaging) This award recognises outstanding retail stores in the appliance or consumer electronics industries. Stores will be judged from a customer’s viewpoint: the store; the staff; the stock range. Judges will be looking for A three-part judging process will apply. Retail groups and industry supply companies will nominate their top stores to be scrutinised by over 80 industry supply companies and be subjected to a mystery shopper analysis. The winners will be announced at the Awards. Judges will be looking for suppliers (not necessarily the largest) who demonstrate effectiveness in key operational areas. Judging process Judging will be by a selection of retail stores and head offices across all the major retail groups. A minimum of 25 retail stores will make up the judging panel. Three finalists in each of the six categories will be selected and the winners will be announced at the Awards. Judging panel Retail stores will judge this award at both head office and store level.
