Game Summaries

Frankenmuth Football FRANKENMUTH 19 - CARSONVILLE 0: History was made as the Frankenmuth Eagles whitewashed Carsonville 19-0 in the first game in Frankenmuth High School history. The Eagles gained 142 yards on the ground and 102 yards passing. Jack Rummel scored the first six pointer from the two-yard line early in the second quarter. A pass from Gary Heine to Harvey Zehnder covered 33 yards for the second TD in the fourth quarter. Chuck Nuechterlein scored the last touchdown on a two-yard run. FRANKENMUTH 35 - NORTH BRANCH JV 0 : The Frankenmuth Eagles played their first game ever under lights at North Branch and galloped home with a 35-0 victory. Al Pavlicek scored the first touchdown, Gary Heine scored two TD's and Larry Huber scored one touchdown. Jack Rummel scored the final touchdown on a 40 yard run. Frankenmuth gained 253 yards while North Branch had a negative 18 yards. FRANKENMUTH 46 - CASS CITY JV 6: Frankenmuth won its third straight game defeating Cass City 46-6. Chuck Nuechterlein scored on the first offensive play of the game on a 19-yard run. Fred Roedel scored on a 1-yard plunge and Don Voorheis on an 11-yard run. Jim Weber scored on a 37 yard blocked punt return and Lance Martin scored on a 51 yard blocked punt return. Harvey Zehnder scored two touchdowns on passes of 33 and 35 yards from Gary Heine. Outstanding defensive players were Dieter Ogurkowski who blocked two punts and Eugene Schmitzer who also blocked a punt. FRANKENMUTH 14 - MT. MORRIS ST. MARY 12: Frankenmuth won a hard fought 14-12 victory over previously undefeated Mt. Morris St. Mary's at Frankenmuth. All the scoring in the game was done in the first half as Mt. Morris scored their two touchdowns early in the first quarter but failed to make any extra points with Don Fischer blocking one extra point. Gary Heine returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown and Tom Block scored on a 4 yard run for the winning touchdown. Chuck Nuechterlein scored both extra points. The second half was a defensive struggle. FRANKENMUTH 33 - LAPEER JV 6: Frankenmuth won its fifth straight by downing Lapeer 33-6. “Skook” Moore scored on 5-yard end around play, as did Gary Heine on a 28-yard gallop. Tom Block scored on a 14 yard run and Al Pavlicek and Don Voorheis each scored on 1-yard runs. Lapeer only touchdown was on a 50-yard pass interception return. Jim Weber and Thom Schutt headed the defense. Frankenmuth gained 225 yards to Lapeer's 39. FRANKENMUTH 42 - CHESANING JV 0: Frankenmuth remained undefeated by defeating Chesaning 42-0 at a home game. Harvey Zehnder scored touchdowns on a 39-yard pass from Gary Heine. Larry Huber picked up a blocked punt by Thom Schutt and Schutt scored on a 29 yard run. Ron Pavlicek scored on a 20-yard pass interception and Don Voorheis scored two touchdowns on sprints of 38 and 30 yards. Extra points were scored by Tom Block, Jack Rummel, Jim Loesel and three by Don Voorheis. FRANKENMUTH 36 - VASSAR JV 0: Frankenmuth remained undefeated by crushing Vassar 36-0. The Eagles dominated the game by not letting Vassar get beyond its 20-yard line all game. Don Voorheis scored two touchdowns on 11 and 36-yard runs. Other touchdowns were scored by Chuck Nuechterlein on a 1-yard smash, Ron Block from 5 yards out, Harvey Zehnder on a 26-yard pass from Gary Heine and a Tom Block 12 yard run. Frankenmuth gained 384 yards rushing to only 76 for Vassar. FRANKENMUTH 37 - MILLINGTON 0: Frankenmuth ended its first season undefeated with home game victory over Millington 37-0. Frankenmuth scored on its first possession with Chuck Nuechterlein plunging over from 1-yard line. Touchdowns were scored by Gary Heine on a 29-yard run and Larry Huber on an 18-yard screen pass from Heine. Eugene Moore went 10-yards on an end around and Al Pavlicek scored two touchdowns on runs of 20-yards and 47-yards. The Eagle defense, headed by Thom Schutt, Jay Poellet and Jim Weber were outstanding as it held Millington throughout the day, not allowing them beyond the Eagles 30-yard line. Tom Block and Gary Heine were leading ground gainers for Frankenmuth with 99 and 96 yards respectively. The Eagles gained 367 yards on the ground to only 73 for Millington.
