Frankenmuth Football FRANKENMUTH 21 - STANDISH-STERLING 6: Frankenmuth opened the season by traveling north to Standish-Sterling and posting a 21-6 season opening victory. Frankenmuth fell behind early as Standish score on a 1st quarter 11-yard run, but failed on the PAT. Frankenmuth answered by scoring on Andy Kreger's 10-yard scamper and Jon Zeilinger added the first of his three PAT's. After a scoreless 2nd quarter, the Eagles upped their lead to 14-6 on Kreger's 10-yard run. In the 4th quarter, Nathan Wellman intercepted his second pass of the game to stop a Panther drive and three plays later Jamie Tacksbury scored on a 31-yard TD run. Tackabury finished with 105 yards rushing. Brandon Schultz and Justin Finkbeiner each had 8 tackles and Craig Trinklein added an interception. FRANKENMUTH 42 - NORTH BRANCH 12: The Eagles opened the Tri-Valley East Conference season with a 42-12 victory over North Branch. The teams traded 1st quarter scores on Nathan Wellman's 11-yard TD pass to Justin Finkbeiner and Andy Kreger scoring on a 51-yard TD run. The Bronco's scored on a 78-yard kickoff return and a 1-yard run. Nathan Wellman accounted for two 2nd quarter scores on runs of 42 yards and 55 yards and Jon Zeilinger added both PAT's. The Eagles led 28-12 at the half. Kreger capped the scoring in the 3rd and 4th quarters on 12 and 16-yard runs. Three Eagle rushers gained over 100 yards with Jamie Tackabury gaining 153 yards, Kreger with 151 yards and Wellman finished with 112 yards. Frankenmuth finished with 420 yards rushing. Wellman was 4 of 7 passing with Finkbeiner receiving all 4 passes. Zeilinger led the defense with 15 tackles and Ryan Warnemuende chipped in with 10 tackles. FRANKENMUTH 27 - BIRCH RUN 8: Frankenmuth collected its third win in three tries by downing visiting Birch Run 27-8. The Eagles jumped out to a 13-0 first quarter led on TD runs by Andy Kreger for 21-yards and Jamie Tackabury from 1-yard out. Kreger added a 2nd quarter score on a 3-yard TD run and Nathan Wellman tossed a 2-point conversion to Dan Radwick. Midway through the 3rd quarter, the Eagles added their final score on Kreger's 3-yard run. Birch Run scored in the final quarter on a 16-yard pass for their lone score. Kreger led the offense with 115 yards rushing. Defensively, Jon Zeilinger picked up 18 tackles and Charlie Sanders added 14 tackles. Wellman and Justin Finkbeiner each intercepted a Birch Run pass. Both teams ended up with 243 yards of total offense. FRANKENMUTH 34 - BRIDGEPORT 6: The Eagles delighted a homecoming crowd with a 34-6 victory over Bridgeport. On Frankenmuth's first possession, Andy Kreger capped a 7-minute drive with a 12-yard run. The Eagles added three 2nd quarter scores on Jamie Tackabury's 4-yard run and TD passes from quarterback Nathan Wellman to Dan Radwick of 33-yards and Justin Finkbeiner of 8-yards. After a scoreless 3rd quarter, the Eagles scored on Tackabury's 41-yard scoring run. The Bearcats got on the scoreboard late in the game on a 24-yard run. Wellman finished the game 6 of 10 passing for 141 yards, with Radwick picking up 5 receptions for 133 yards. Tackabury led all rushers with 131 yards. The Eagles tacklers were led by Jon Zeilinger's 18, Brandon Schultz 14 tackles, Ryan Warnemuende added 12 tackles and Charlie Sanders chipped in with 11 tackles. FRANKENMUTH 55 - VASSAR 14: The Eagles scored 41 first half points en route to a 55-14 vanquishing of Vassar. Vassar scored first on a 4-yard run to take an early 6-0 lead. Frankenmuth then posted 6 unanswered touchdowns in the first half on two Nathan Wellman TD passes of 33-yards to Justin Finkbeiner and 20-yards to Bruce Dietrich, two TD runs of 23 and 11 yards by Wellman, a Jamie Tackabury 39-yard run and a Andy Kreger 1-yard run, as the Eagles led 41-6 at the half. The Eagles added two more 3rd quarter scores on a Wellman 19-yard run and Brandon Schultz's 60-yard run. The Eagles picked up 524 yards of offense, with 452 of the yards coming on the ground. Wellman ended the game with 116 yards rushing. Defensively Brent Lake recovered a fumble and Schultz intercepted a Vulcan pass. MILLINGTON 35 - FRANKENMUTH 14: In a battle of unbeaten teams, Millington defeated the host Eagles 35-14. The Eagles found themselves down 21-0 at halftime on two Cardinal TD passes and a 4-yard run. Frankenmuth narrowed the score on Jamie Tackabury's 3-yard run, Matt Rittmueller returned an interception 20-yards for a touchdown and Jon Zeilnger's PAT's gave Millington the 21-14 lead. Two 4th quarter Cardinal touchdowns put the game away on a pair of 1-yard TD runs. Brandon Schultz and Jon Zeilinger paced the Eagles defense with 14 tackles each. FRANKENMUTH 20 - CARO 13: The Eagles traveled to Caro and defeated the previously unbeaten Tigers 20-13. Caro opened the scoring on its first possession with a 1-yard run, but Frankenmuth countered with a Nathan Wellman 3-yard run, but the PAT failed and Caro led 7-6. A pair of Caro field goals of 27 & 42 yards accounted for all the scoring of the 2nd quarter Caro led at the half 13-6. On the Eagles first drive of the 2nd half, they possessed the ball for nearly 10 minutes and Wellman scored on a 1-yard run and Jon Zeilinger's PAT tied the score. Forcing a Caro punt, the Eagles drove to the Caro 13-yard line, but fumbled the ball away. Three plays later, Ryan Warnemuende recovered a Caro fumble and Wellman followed with a 7-yard TD run to give the Eagles a 20-13 lead. Caro drove the ball down to the Eagle 1-yard line, but an Eagle defensive stand secured the victory for Frankenmuth. The Eagles amassed 300 yards rushing, with Jamie Tackabury gaining 127 yards and Andy Kreger picking up 105. Zeilinger led the defense with 13 tackles. FRANKENMUTH 46 - ESSEXVILLE-GARBER 0: Frankenmuth rolled out to a 33-0 halftime lead and posted a 46-0 shutout over the Garber Dukes. Despite fumbling their first two possessions, the Eagle offense got on track with three TD's in the 1st quarter. Andy Kreger scored on a 40-yard TD and Nathan Wellman returned an interception 50-yards for a score and threw a 28-yard TD strike to Justin Finkbeiner. Kreger added two 2nd quarter scoring jaunts of 25 and 53 yards. Kreger added his 4th TD of the game in the 3rd quarter on a 34-yard run and Ryan Ijames capped the scoring on a 2-yard run. Kreger rushed for 235 yards on only 8 carries, as the Eagles compiled 450 yards of offense. Jon Zeilinger was the Eagles's leading tackler with 11. FRANKENMUTH 27 - LAKERS 22: Frankenmuth traveled to Lakers and pulled out a 27-22 triumph. Lakers took an early lead on a 20-yard field goal, but Frankenmuth took the lead on Jamie Tackabury's 1-yard run and Jon Zeilinger added the PAT. The two teams each scored 2nd quarter touchdowns, as Nathan Wellman scored for the Eagles on a 3-yard run and the Lakers countered with a 4-yard TD pass, as Frankenmuth took a 14-10 lead into halftime. In the 3rd quarter, Frankenmuth upped its lead to 21-10 on Wellman's 12-yard run and Nick Rodammer's PAT, but Laker's scored the next two touchdowns on a 1-yard run and 38-yard TD pass to take a 22-21 lead. The Eagles put together one last drive and scored the game winning touchdown with only 10 seconds remaining on Andy Kreger's 1-yard run. The Eagles, which rushed for 311 yards, were led by Tackabury's 135 yards rushing and Kreger's 133 yards. Zeilinger led the defense in tackles with 15. CHESANING 35 - FRANKENMUTH 7: The Eagles opened state playoff action by traveling to Chesaning and were soundly beaten 35-7. Chesaning took a quick lead on the first play from scrimmage, scoring on an 81-yard run to take a 7-0 lead. The Indians added two more 1st half scores on touchdown runs of 1 and 6 yards. Jamie Tackabury scored the Eagles lone score in the 2nd quarter on a 3-yard run. Chesaning added two 2nd half scores on runs of 3 and 4 yards to round out the 35-7 final score. Tackabury led the Eagles rushers with 86 yards. Brandon Schultz was the leading Eagle tackler with 7 tackles.
