Visit Colleges o Possible dates: 9/2, 9/29, 10/15, 10/17, 11/14 o If you can’t visit—call the college if you have specific questions o Look through their website o Review majors available—should be able to find a 4 year plan to view classes required for major (Does your major have specific admissions requirements?) Apply o Review admission requirements (gpa, test scores, curriculum, etc) o Deadlines for priority scholarships (WSU—Oct 1 KU/KSU—Nov 1) o Fill out general first-time freshmen application for admissions Some may have an essay o Is there a separate scholarship application? Essay? o Apply even if you plan to take the ACT again Transcripts o Set up Parchment account—parents sent email and handout given today o Request through Parchment—if school is not on there, come see Mrs. Niemtschk Letters of Recommendation o Do not ask unless you know for sure that you need one o Give the information ahead of time and allow the recommender plenty of time to complete o Give them a current resume, list of accomplishments, and any other important information to help write the recommendation ACT/SAT o All schools take ACT or SAT o Some schools may require SAT subject tests or ACT with writing o KS schools will take the September and October ACT scores. December can still be submitted but it will depend on if money is available to award scholarships for the new test score. o Test-prep at ACHS on Sept 10 from 6-10 in the library—forms in our office o Other ACT prep: AHS late this fall, seminar test prep, WSU Scholarships o Majority of money will come directly from school planning to attend (merit based—GPA and ACT) o Look for other scholarships at the school that are not merit based (ex. Leadership or service scholarships) o Search all year long—use websites on scholarships handout and continue to check our website o Departmental scholarships at potential school? o Fine arts—audition or portfolio? o Parent’s workplace—check with them to see if there are some available Transfer Credit o Most colleges have a website that you can search courses and see how they transfer o AP credit—check with each school—call to clarify if needed o CLEP tests—schools offer these to test out o High ACT scores—some colleges offer credit based off high ACT scores in English and/or math--check with each specific school Fee Waivers o Many colleges offer fee waivers if on free/reduced lunch program o If fees are involved, always ask if there are other options or payment plans available (ex. for application fees, test prep opportunities, etc) ENJOY SENIOR YEAR!!!!!
