ith a school-record for wins, a Top-10 ranking in the national polls, its first ever playoff series victory and its inaugural trip to the ECAC Hockey Championship Tournament, Clarkson University enjoyed great success in the 2007-08 campaign. Head coach Rick Seeley and assistant coaches Shannon and Matt Desrosiers, established the five-year-old Golden Knight program as one of the best in the country with a young team that relied upon hard work, discipline play, a stingy defensive effort, and opportunistic scoring. Led by their four seniors, captain Katie Morrison and assistants Brooke Beazer, Jessica Cloutier and Amanda Dittmer, the Knights skated to a 24-9-5 overall record, and finished fourth in ECAC Hockey with a 13-6-3 league mark. The Green and Gold rallied to defeat Princeton in the league’s postseason quarterfinal round, earning their first victories ever over the Tigers, by winning the best-of-three game series 2-1 at Cheel Arena. The finest season in Clarkson’s brief history came to a close in the conference semifinal round as the Knights fell to the top team in the country, Harvard, as the Crimson pulled away for a hard fought win on their home ice at the Bright Hockey Center on March 8. Featuring one of the stingiest defenses in the country, Clarkson was ranked fourth in the nation allowing only 1.42 goals per games. The Knights finished second in ECAC Hockey action in scoring defense (1.59). Back boning Clarkson’s strong defensive play was a pair of talented freshman goaltenders, Eve Grandmont-Berube and Lauren Dahm, who boasted some of the best numbers in the country. Offensively, Clarkson displayed a balanced attack and averaged close to three goals per game. Eleven players scored in double figures, including four with over 30 points, and several forwards established new school records. Sophomore Britney Selina set a new standard for points in a season with 44, including a record 26 assists. Clarkson was the least penalized team in college hockey, averaging just 7.2 minutes per game. EXH. An uncharacteristic performance nearly doomed Clarkson on Saturday afternoon against as the Golden Knights were whistled for six penalties in the first two periods, but the Green and Gold rallied to salvage the tie. Britney Selina saved the day for the Golden Knights by scoring with just 35 seconds left in the contest after the Knights trailed for the majority of the game. Clarkson was penalized seven times in the contest, the most infractions the team has received since November 3, 2006, a stretch of 31 games. Clarkson’s 170-minute streak of holding its opponents without a goal came to a quick end in the first period as Niagara scored on a shot from just inside the blueline. The Purple Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 late in the second period with a power-play marker. However, the two-goal deficit seemed to spark Clarkson as the Golden Knights picked up their energy level. Genevieve Lavoie won the battle for the puck behind the net and cut the Purple Eagles’ lead in half with an unassisted goal on a wrap around with just under three minutes remaining in the middle frame. It appeared as if the penalties were going to be too much for Clarkson to overcome, but late in the third frame, the Golden Knights took a time out to prepare their last offensive rush. With the goalie pulled, Clarkson skated six-on-five and took advantage of the extra attacker with Selina scoring off assists from Brooke Beazer and Carlee Eusepi with just 34.9 seconds remaining. Clarkson finished with a 25-19 advantage in shots. Eve Grandmont-Berube posted 17 saves. Score by Periods Niagara (0-1-1) CLARKSON (3-0-1)

Thanks to a pair of specialty-team goals in the second period, Clarkson completed the weekend sweep on the road with the one-goal victory at Brown, and entered the lenghty break on a high note. Though Clarkson dominated play from a shots standpoint, the Knights and Bears were scoreless after the first period. It wasn't until the second frame that Clarkson got on the scoreboard when Amanda Dittmer scored her first goal of the season, a power-play marker at 3:21. Just a few minutes later, Genevieve Lavoie tallied on the man advantage for a 2-0 lead. Brown got on the scoreboard at 8:25 of the middle frame with a power-play marker, but that was it as the Knights defense and Eve Garndmont-Berube, with 16 saves, shut the Bears down the rest of the way. Clarkson finished with an overwhelming 39-17 lead in shots.

Britney Selina scored twice and added an assist for a five-point weekend as Clarkson beat Vermont for the second straight day. After falling behind by a goal to the Catamounts in the first period, the Knights scored three straight goals to pick up the win. Two power-play markers in the second period highlighted the middle frame for the Knights as Selina and Melissa Waldie tallied with the man advantage. The Knights iced the game with Selina's second score of the game midway through the third period. Lauren Dahm made 18 saves to pick up her sixth victory of the season.

Game #32 (February 16, 2008) - Att: 404 Cheel Arena, Potsdam, NY Final Score: CLARKSON 5 - Yale 1 Five different Golden Knights scored goals and Eve Grandmont-Berube made 19 saves as Clarkson ran its unbeaten streak to five games (3-0-2). Benefiting from five power plays to start Saturday’s game, the Knights dominated the opening 20 minutes, out shooting Yale 17-7, but could not convert on their numerous chances in the scoreless stanza. Clarkson’s offense found its momentum early in the second period and rolled from there, scoring twice in the middle frame and three more times in the final period. Shortly after Clarkson’s sixth power play came to an end, the Knights finally broke through with their first goal at 2:37 of the second period. The Green and Gold’s leading scorer, Britney Selina tallied her 17th goal of the season. At 16:37, Clarkson made it 2-0 with a powerplay marker from Melissa Waldie, who knocked in her 18th goal of the season by redirecting in a shot by Genevieve Lavoie. Clarkson added two more goals one minute apart in the third frame for a 4-0 lead with Katie Morrison and Brooke Beazer scoring. The Bulldogs spoiled the Knights’ shutout at 11:41. Clarkson quickly regained its four-goal lead at 13:21 as the Knights’ leading goal scorer, Marie-Jo Gaudet, got behind the Yale defense and fired in her 20th goal of the season. Clarkson out shot Yale by more than a 2-to-1 margin, 44-20. The Knights went 2-of-9 on the power play and killed off the Bulldogs’ only two chances.

Four different players recorded power-play goals for Clarkson as the Golden Knights cinched up home ice in the first round with an overwhelming victory over Quinnipiac. After a scoreless first period, in which the Knights held a 16-7 edge in shots, Clarkson put on a scoring barrage unlike any other in nearly 70 games. Scoring five goals in the frame, the most scores in a single period since the Knights tallied six times in a September 29, 2006 game, the opener of that season, Clarkson took control and never looked back. Genevieve Lavoie started the scoring parade with seven seconds remaining in a power play that carried over from the first period, picking up a rebound on the goalie’s glove side and depositing it into the net at 0:40. Less than six minutes later, Laura Hart scored her first career goal for the game-winner. Three-anda-half minutes later, Marie-Jo Gaudet scored her first of two goals on the night. After a brief break, the onslaught continued as Melissa Waldie slipped in a shot off a rebound from her original shot for an unassisted marker at the 14:04 mark. Gaudet followed with her 22nd goal of the season 54 seconds later. Both of those goals came on the power play. The Bobcats finally ended the run with a 5-on-3 power-play goal with just 31 seconds remaining in the period. Clarkson recorded its fourth power play goal of the game at 2:13 of the third period when Britney Selina scored her 18th of the season. At 13:51, Jessica Cloutier joined the Clarkson scoring list with an unassisted goal. Lauren Dahm made 14 saves. Clarkson finished 4-for-7 on the power play, while Quinnipiac went 1-for-5.

Jessica Cloutier Game #34 (February 23, 2008) - Att: 426 Cheel Arena, Potsdam, NY Final Score: Princeton 2 - Clarkson 1 A short-handed goal with just 3:06 remaining in the third period lifted Princeton to one-goal win, handing the Knights only their third home loss of the season. Clarkson, which saw a six-game unbeaten streak snapped, ended up in fourth place in ECAC Hockey. With 45 seconds left in the first, Katie Morrison put the Knights on top with a power-play marker, but that would be the lone tally for the Green and Gold. Jessica Cloutier and Marie-Jo Gaudet assisted. Just two minutes into the second period, Princeton tied the score. The Tigers came through with the game-winner on a 3-on-1 rush coming down the ice, while shorthanded. The Knights pulled the goalie in the final minute, but were unable to record the equalizer despite several close shots. Clarkson finished with a 2817 edge in shots. Eve Grandmont-Berube made 15 saves for Clarkson. The Knights went 1-for-5 on the power play and the Tigers were scoreless in both of their chances. Clarkson jumped out to a 20 lead through 40 minutes and then held off a late Princeton charge to gain its first victory ever over the Tigers, snapping a 0-8-1 skid. Midway through the opening period, Clarkson scored its first goal of the playoffs when defenseman Carlee Eusepi finished off a rush with an unassisted goal at 10:07. At 10:54 of the middle frame, Katie Morrison tipped in a shot from the point by Amanda Dittmer for a power-play marker and a 2-0 lead. Princeton got on the scoreboard at 7:28 of the third with a power-play goal. The Tigers tied the game with another powerplay tally, a 5-on-3 score, at 15:11. Clarkson improved its overtime record to 2-0-5 with Moorehead's gamewinner. Game #37 (March 2, 2008) - Att: 323 Game 3 - ECAC Quarterfinals Cheel Arena, Potsdam, NY Final Score: CLARKSON 2 - Princeton 1 A nine-game winless streak against Princeton was finally stopped on Saturday by Clarkson, and a twogame winning “streak” was continued on Sunday as the Golden Knights captured their ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals series against the Tigers with a one-goal victory. Clarkson took little time to put pressure on the Tigers in the first period and held an overwhelming 9-0 lead in shots early on, with two of those attempts crossing the goal line. Marie-Jo Gaudet took a pass from Genevieve Lavoie and connected at 5:54. Carlee Eusepi also assisted. Gaudet picked up her second goal of the game, and a Clarkson single-season record 24th tally of the season, two minutes later. Jessica Cloutier took two shots in close that were both denied, but Gaudet was there to pick up the loose puck, sliding the shot over the end line for a 2-0 Clarkson lead. The Knights enjoyed a solid advantage through the first period, out shooting Princeton 13-4, but the Tigers responded with spirited play in the second frame. That push from Princeton culminated in a goal at 11:34. The third period saw another long stretch of domination by the Tigers, as Princeton held a 132 advantage in shots, but Eve Grandmont-Berube proved to be up to the task, denying all 13 chances and foiling some other solid scoring opportunities. The Tigers pulled their goalie for almost two full minutes at the end of the third in an attempt to net the equalizer, but Princeton's extra attacker wasn't enough to gain another goal. Princeton finished with a 28-23 lead in shots, but Grandmont-Berube finished with 27 saves to improve her record in the postseason to 2-0. Score by Periods Princeton (14-12-6) CLARKSON (24-8-5)

Ranked ninth in the country, Clarkson finished with a 24-9-5 overall record. Seeded fourth in the league tournament, the Knights played league regular-season champion Harvard even for nearly 40 minutes on its home ice before the Crimson pulled away to improve their record to 30-1-0. Clarkson had the better of the play in the first period, out shooting Harvard 4-3, and came out strong to start the second. The Knights, however, could not convert on the first three power plays of the game, and the Crimson slowly started to gain control. Harvard scored the only goal it would need with less than two minutes to play in the middle frame. The Crimson scored on its only power play opportunity at 4:11 of the third, and made it 3-0 at 9:58. Harvard out shot the Knights 21-13, including an 18-9 advantage over the final two periods. Eve Grandmont Berube posted 18 stops for the Green and Gold. Clarkson was 0-of-5 on the power play.
