2012 SPRING SEASON INFORMATION NIGHT December 5, 2011

Two Great Organizations Promoting a Terrific Sport

East Bay Lacrosse • A non profit created to promote lacrosse as a development and growth activity for the youth of Bristol County • K through 8th, Boys & Girls • A recreational, “Non-Competitive” League • A member of Rhode Island Youth Lacrosse League • Governed by a volunteer Board of Directors • Enrollment of 500 players (85% Barrington residents)

Barrington Middle School Girls Lacrosse • A non profit created to promote the health, development and camaraderie for middle school aged girls in Barrington • 6, 7 and 8th grade Girls • Historically organized with competitive and developmental teams • Games played against other middle schools, public and private • Governed by a volunteer Board of Directors • Enrollment of 60 players (100% Barrington residents)

Two Programs Historically Run Independently East Bay Lacrosse Program: 8 Weeks Starting early April 2 evening practices (between 5:00 -7:00) 8 Saturday morning games (4 Away)

BMS Girls Lacrosse Program: 8 Weeks Starting early April Weekday afternoon practices (2:30 -4:00) 10 in-state weekday games against private and public middle schools

Historical Issues/Conflicts for Families of BMS Girls Lacrosse Players

 Two Registrations & Two Fees

 Two Uniforms  Overlapping and conflicting practice schedules  Difficulty in finding competitive play for the top 7th & 8th graders  Sometimes conflicting game schedules  Dare we say…too much lacrosse in any given week

Other Higher Level Competitive Programs “OCPs”

New England United

Recognizing the need for greater coordination and the potential to bring a better overall program to the community, on October 24th the programs agreed to merge and continue under the administrative oversight of the EBBCLA Board. The East Bay Lacrosse By-Laws were modified to expand the Board to nine members with the addition of two new positions: 1) A Barrington Middle School Girls Director 2) A Barrington Middle School Member-At-Large.

Unlike the last two years, East Bay Lax will not be offering competitive programs for girls in the 5/6th and 7/8th grade levels…

…as a result 20 girls from Barrington Middle School have signed up to play for the Rhode Island NESLL teams.

Note : Playing on a NESLL or any other competitive program (OCP) with scheduled Saturday games, precludes your daughter from also playing on an East Bay Lacrosse recreational team… So logically our lacrosse playing daughters in 6th , 7th , and 8th grade have four potential options to choose from:

BMS & EAST BAY

BMS ONLY

EAST BAY ONLY

But first you need to know that there has been one big change to the Barrington Middle School Lacrosse Program No longer will the girls be split up by ability into A, B & C squads regardless of age Instead we will have two equally skilled “ A” squads comprised of 7th & 8th graders The BMS “B” squad will be an all 6th grader team

The 6th graders will now get a full game schedule The equally matched 7th & 8th grade squads will each play a half schedule for BMS against other A players
